Fairly often, I pull into a parking spot and think I'm a foot away from the car/wall/column in front of me, get out of the car and I'm like 3-5 feet away. stupid brains 9/3/2010 5:39:10 PM |

You need to buy a 70s American land barge with a hood ornament to use as a reference point. 9/3/2010 5:50:43 PM |

my garage is barely 5 inches longer than my car, so I've learned to stop this not pulling into a spot far enough-issue by virtue of just having to close my garage door.
So, maybe try something like this to get over it? 9/3/2010 6:01:29 PM |

well i guess my point would be to pick somewhere smaller, and less familiar. when i first moved in i was scared i would hit the wall. but having to get within inches of it really taught me what the front of my car looks like next to an object super close to the front bumper.
it's not so much about me being familiar with the garage, as it is knowing exactly what a big wall in front of my car should look like at the 3 inch mark. 9/3/2010 6:11:16 PM |

the damn person who parks in front of me at work has a hard time judging distance too. her ass is always encroaching a foot or two into my space 9/3/2010 6:17:37 PM |

trying parallel park my truck is a pain in the ass. it has the turning radius of a battleship and the tailgate is so high that a normal sized sedan behind you disappears miles before you're even close to it.
anyone want to buy a truck? 9/3/2010 6:26:20 PM |

If it really bothers you, you can just line your mirrors up with the car next to you or a few spaces over or whatever when you pull in. That'll generally make for a good parking job. 9/3/2010 7:27:23 PM |

^ What if you're parking next to two of these?
