perhaps. an ex girlfriend made me try them while we were on vacation at the beach. it was disgusting. I think the amount of salt made my heart shrink 3 sizes.

If you cook them yourself you can control the saltiness and hardness. As one of my room mates put it, they taste like and have the consistency of edamame. I'd say they have a bit of firm resistance to biting force, they definitely are not mushy, and 'soft' is relative... Yes, they are softer than roasted nuts.
