if its leaking out from under your driveway you should report to the water company that there is probably a damaged pipe.

Check to see if it's a leaking pipe: Turn off everything that uses water in or outside the house. Check water meter to see if you're using water.
Check to see if it's groundwater: Usually there is a stone coarse beneath the slab to help drain water. Check the elevation around the pad because there could be water flowing into your stone base and then pumping out of your cracked slab.

Skack All American 31140 Posts user info edit post |
Doesn't the credit depend on which side of the meter the leak is on? I always thought the homeowner owned the water pipe from the meter to the house.
Can you turn the water off? iirc, The old "t-handle" water meter tool doesn't work on the new meters, but maybe there is a valve in there you can use. If that's the case it might be worth filling all your pitchers/nalgene bottles with water and sticking it in the fridge for cooking and then just turning on the water when you want to shower & wash dishes until it is sorted out. 9/9/2010 1:48:25 PM |

If the leak was on the other side of the meter, the meter wouldn't know there was a leak there, and you wouldn't get a credit.9/9/2010 3:52:05 PM |

Shitty pipes at Hunter's Creek? No....
I say this because of an issue with the pipes in the unit I lived in that it took the homeowner several months to properly diagnose and get straightened out. It ended up being root intrusion/damage in some sort of pipe junction that was buried about 5 feet underground, beside the walkway to the front door. Fun stuff--maybe your situation is similar. (Though our issue was causing backups inside the house, not a leak outside) 9/9/2010 4:01:26 PM |

you know that when stuff is "included" in rent, they already have it built in to the price, probably higher per month than you would pay if you were metered and paid your true usage right?

I vacuumed out the meter hole and sucked all the mud out and the leak is not anywhere near the meter.....it is somewhere underground between the meter and my house. Probably thanks to that beast ass tree next to the meter the line was broken.

I tried to dig it up last night with a square head shovel and got no where. I am going to have to get a pick ax and round shovel today and try again.
Turned off the water overnight but had to turn it back on today so everyone could get morning showers and its already swamped out there. 9/10/2010 6:59:41 AM |

Well I can't say I feel your pain, because I'm not going to have to dig up my yard, but my water heater started leaking this week and I had to shut off all water in my house because the valve leading into the water heater isn't working (won't close, just twists infinitely).
So I feel your no-water pain at least.

Dude, I had the same thing going a few weeks ago. In my case, it was just a shitty pipe that rotted out where it had been patched one too many times, but I went ahead and got the association to cut my tree out just in case. It wound up costing me about $2,000 before all was said and done. 9/13/2010 12:24:26 PM |

HOLY MOTHER OF FML
I have a new leak and its a very small distance up the line from the original one. The plumber told me my pipe was brittle and probably the whole thing needed to be replaced (he just patched the broken spot and it was fine when he left)
Now water is erupting from about 5 feet closer to the house.

you need to replace the whole line, you are going to keep getting new leaks everytime you patch one. im assuming the house is at least 30 years old, or somewhere around that? 10/4/2010 9:07:35 AM |
