i watch it, pause it after the ingredient baskets are revealed, make a plan as to what i'd do if i was on the show, then watch the competitors go at it

a season or two ago this guy:



lives 3 houses down from me and i got to his tapas joint fairly often. he goes to one of my haunts often and we've had a few conversations over shots of jack daniels.

he got 2nd to a guy who had way too big of a resume to be on this show.

however, before the champions shows recently they seem to be running out of talent to bring in.

Yeah, she kind of is. The other regular judges can be assholes sometimes (Holy crap don't feed Scott Conant raw red onion or you will UNLEASH THE BEAST) but they also seem to have a sense of humor and you can tell they're dialing up the criticism for the show. Alex...nah, that just seems like the way she is.

i don't think anyone is going to beat that black british dude who used to be homeless. he breezed through the first time he was on, although the asian guy he was going against was also really good. and he didn't have any problems on the first champions ep either.

that was hilarious. Though, when it comes to hate-worthy hosts, that's the reason I can't watch top chef. Padma is such a bitch, and it seems like all the jugdes on top chef watched tapes of Simon Cowell but can't pull it off.

That British dude they had as a frequent judge (last season? 2 seasons ago), Toby something or another, had a credible Cowell-esque vibe going, in an amusing way. And there are days where I wonder who pissed in Tom's Cheerios, and yes Padma can go from zero to bitch with no warning. But for the most part I like the Top Chef judges. There are more of them overall than Chopped though due to the guest judges, and the fact that they have different regulars other than Tom and Padma each season--I can really only think of 7 judges that are in the "main" Chopped rotation, with a couple of others that show up once in a great while.
