It is a degenerative disease, but can be managed with drugs. There isn't a cure, though.

you would LAUGH OUT LOUD at a child with a disorder?
i'm not trying to act all high and mighty, i'm just not understanding the funny element at all

so while the kids is trying to write and jumbling letters, shaking their hands, and getting frustrated because they can't do it as easily as the other kids you will be one of the kids laughing at them. At the end of the day, that child wants to be more like "the person that laughed at them" than you'll ever know. Kid crying at night from not being to do things like the others, yeah man, that's hilarious.

p.s. i never had a disability, or disease, in case you were just thinking bitter.

in my experience, people with disabilities would rather you treat them like you would anyone else. putting them on a "special' pedestal is much more degrading than joking around about their shortcomings

what about the handicapped kids that are so mentally off that they don't realize they're different?

What if I don't laugh at them, but I enjoy going to the special olympics so that I can bet on who's the fastest and who doesn't realize they're in a race? Does that make me a bad person?

Eh, my uncle has it and fully expects to die at least partially as a result, but he has a good sense of humor about it.

When they bury me after cirrhosis of the liver/cancer of the lung/heart attack that family history has told me to expect for years, I'd like to think I'll be able to laugh about it.

I didn't laugh at first, then figured it out and kinda so oh.

It is better to make light of a serious situation for a person in it, so it doesn't seem so serious. Also he probably realizes that the Parkinson's jokes about him causes alot more people to be aware of and more knowledable about the disease - Which is one of the things he is trying to do.

I think there is a difference between making fun of someone with an illness or disability and just laughing and finding the humor in it. There is nothing wrong with finding the humor is bad situations it makes things easier to go through, but making fun of someone who has picked up or was born with something that they have no control over is just plain mean.
