on the left side we have the number of Presidents who have had each number of middle names; on the right is the frequency of each middle initial among the 43 people who have been the President of the United States

The last President to have no middle name was Theodore Roosevelt Jr., and the first President to have a middle name was John Quincy Adams; Martin van Buren had no middle name (his last name was "van Buren"), and Stephen Grover Cleveland, Thomas Woodrow Wilson, and John Calvin Coolidge Jr. were better-known by their middle names. I listed Ulysses Simpson Grant by the name he had been known by since his days at West Point, even though he was born Hiram Ulysses Grant, and I listed Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr. by the name he took at law school, after his adoptive father (he was born as Leslie Lynch King Jr.).

Of the 4 Presidents with W as a middle initial, only one wasn't utterly reprehensible (Bush the Elder), while the 4 Presidents with H as a middle initial were mostly good (OTOH we should be glad that William Henry Harrison dropped dead when he did); oddly enough the two Presidents with A as a middle initial shared a relatively inconsequential term (James Abram Garfield and Chester Alan Arthur), while the two Presidents with C as a middle initial also served in sequence (John Calvin Coolidge Jr. and Herbert Clark Hoover).

Also, how is your initial post a pattern? Just seems like tabulated data without any sort of measurable recurrence...

Kind of hard to "guess" a pattern when it's not a pattern!
