Is it just me, or do women tend to travel in social packs of four? Just thinking off the top of my head, a lot of my female friends tend to quatro up when they pose for FB pictures ("the fab four back together again!") and when I went out last night, most groups of women were in 4s. The few pairs of women out there were pretty obviously looking for sex and the one group of 3 just looked uncomfortable.

Hell, even Sex in the City was a foursome.

It's easy to find seating for four in a restaurant/bar. Any more than 4 and you sometimes have a longer wait for service. And the servers can be grumpy because a group of women generally entails separate checks ... hence we tend to travel in packs of four. It's generally just an issue of convenience/logistics.

i don't have a group of 4.

I have 3 best friends two who don't care too much for each other. so at home I hang out with each one and go out with each one on an individual basis.

Here in SD. I mainly go out with 2 girls in my office and potentially with another of their friends so that makes 4 but then we usually have two of their husbands with us and some other guys.

so ya i don't follow this rule.

I'm not saying it has anything to do with sketchiness, there just seems to be comfort in a group of four. Perhaps it is because two women almost always appear desperate (am I wrong here?) but even three seems like a formidable enough force of friends. Thus, if you loose one woman to a suitor (preferably a bona fide one) then the three remaining women all retain the appearance that they can convince more than one person to go out with them and are, thus protected from becoming a duo, which is easily approached by sexual predators who are only able to organize into pairs (if that).

In almost every issue the outcome will always be a 2 v. 1 split with one girl feeling left out or the two girls ganging up on or shit talking about the lone one. kinda, but it doesn't explain why they always wind up in groups of 4 and not 6 or 8. Besides, the buddy pair is the purview of the male. Perfect Strangers, Die Hard, Dukes of Hazzard, . . . even in Lord of the Rings the guys paired off (Gimli and Legolas, Merry and Pipin, Frodo and Sam . . . Aragorn was to smitten with whats-her-tits to pair up with a dude). In Knight Rider the pair was a car, granted, but it was still a pair. The A-Team is a notable exception to this rule, though each of the characters spent a large amount of time acting independently. Within that group though, Hannibal was always planning, Face always had a girl, and BA and Murdock were always paired up (much to BA's chagrin).


More critically, pairs of guys do not pair up with one another. If three guys at work get along, three guys at work will go out. We don't like to hunt alone but we're not particular about the size of our group when we do go out.
