I have an interview this morning, and my slacks are too tight, so I'm going to use this other pair of pants. My question: Does this match? The pants are not dark black, they are light black with a brown/maroon pin stripe.

Go for it. The worst that can happen is that you resemble a clown and they make fun of you and throw your resume in the trash as soon as you leave.

Yeah, everybody hated on my outfit when in my interview thread, and now I'm about to get a bonus of 15% of my annual salary.

There is a bunch of shit you can read and drive yourself crazy figuring out, but I think bmel said it best when she told me just to wear whatever I'd be the most confident in.

1) fashion is stupid, as are people that care about it (on both the "dress to please" or "judge others" side of things)

2) there is no such thing as "dark black" or "light black". I believe the word you're looking for is "gray".

3) There is nothing inappropriate about a green, red, or any other color shirt. If they don't hire you b/c of your shirt, their loss.

A: I don't own a white shirt.
B: One of the interviewers had on a sweater vest.
C: There is more than one kind of black; ie: Faded black = light black, non-faded = dark black or glossy black.
D: Interview went ok. The spoken part went pretty well I think, however the demonstration part of the interview could have gone better. I should have brushed up on using version 1.5 or 2.0 of the software, not 3.0... which I could have done if I had bothered to ask which version they use when they asked if I had any questions when they called me to do the interview.

i think its safe to say what you wear isn't going to get you the job, unless you're applying at hooters maybe, but it can in some cases certainly prevent you from getting it. better to be safe than sorry. i'd much rather be overdressed and see the company is more casual and then adapt that way than the other.

The point is they didn't get the job (unless they wore a suit to their interview at McDonalds). I think its generally a good practice to take advice from those who have successfully conquered whatever topic they are giving advice on and therefore have a practical knowledge rather than those who only have a theoretical knowledge

how do you know they didn't get the job? people have been getting laid off especially heavy in the past few years, you know. people switch professions. people go back to school and work part-time jobs while doing so. perhaps it was a contract position or temp job.

and just because someone didn't get a job doesn't mean they weren't successful in dressing appropriately for the interview.

but yea, they probably just work at mcdonalds.

^^ Haha I know. But I've had it confirmed with several sources that the gold buckle is the way to go in the financial services industry and a few professional service lines (CPA, JD, etc.). Makes sense for larger investment banks...though they are all about IT streamlining their banking culture there is still a sense of slick hair, leather-bound library, red upholstered throne, cigar-wielding men running the show.

i would NEVER wear a belt with a gold buckle, rose gold perhaps, but not yellow gold colored. i did as a kid in the 90s, but never again. same with gold colored eyeglass frames and gold colored metal watch bracelet.

love rose gold, though.
