What is the origin of TWW's emoticons? I had always kind of assumed they were original works until recently when I saw , , and a couple of others on the arstechnica forums. 10/4/2010 11:58:23 AM |

They can be traced back to a series of prehistoric cave paintings in Lascaux, France. 10/4/2010 1:53:01 PM |

I don't really remember looking back through a decade of alcohol infused haze, but I seem to recall Jake saying that he borrowed them from Ars 10/4/2010 11:00:56 PM |

from what i understand a great deal of tww's layout etc was based on ars technica, so i'm not surprised the smilies are from there too.
in fact despite the decade since tww's inception, you can still see major similarities between it and ars. 10/6/2010 1:14:58 AM |
