Putting a computer in the employee breakroom. Would like to deep freeze it once I get it setup - i know all kinds of shit will get downloaded on it. Is there an opensource/free version that does this for Windows XP?

I haven't used this, but Windows SteadyState appears to be Microsoft's Deep Freeze competition and it appears to be free. You might want to try that out. Also, just throwing this out there, does it have to be XP? Would a bootable Ubuntu live CD work? Hell, you might even be able to make a bootable Windows CD with BartPE or something.

Returnil

Use it on several of our public machines; no problems in the last year. Biggest problem is you have to reboot to 'unlock' for updates.

^^Yea, basically anything you do on a computer will be cleared on a reboot. Only way to get around it is to put in the password and restart computer to allow it to save changes. Otherwise, your one restart away from all your fuxoring going bye-bye!

most colleges have it setup this way in the labs. there is a "thaw" drive where you can save shit if needed.

sounds almost like something a Ubuntu live cd or something would suffice

^^Yep, that's how I'm familiar with it. We have it on all of our lab machines at work. Its a damn lifesaver.
