It's a 2006 and I probably won't rally it but I'd love to take it up to VIR though
Oh and yes I know you can get more power for cheaper with a wrx modded but I want to stay stock. This one has a catback I'll probably replace with the stock exhaust

who wants downforce on the non-steering non-drive tires ?? Thats why civic wings are dumb. They're just drag and they ruin the one thing that a civic does well.. get good gas mileage... 10/7/2010 8:01:05 PM |

Driving this car without dealer dude around has been fun. It doesn't shift as smoothly as my M Roadster did but they're two totally different cars. The STI is ungodly fast though.
I never said I wouldn't track the car but I can't afford the tires/maintenance costs to do so often. This goes triple for rally.
ha and I've never had a car with a spoiler like that, I keep thinking there's a car in my blindspot but its just the wing

One thing that struck me about these earlier STi's was how uncompromising the suspension tuning is. It's very stiff for a completely factory vehicle and was clearly designed with one thing in mind.

You'll get used to it and then you'll want more power. Everybody does.

actually I forgot to mess with it but I'll be out there again tomorrow in the day light and I'll open it up a bit more.
had my first race today also, spanked a Mercedes SL 55 AMG from a rolling start too. I would have gotten him worse if we had a stand still start
found I out the car has turboback magnaflow exhaust and a K&N short ram intake. not sure what else just yet. The BOV could be aftermarket but I'm not familiar enough with Subaru to know for sure just yet 10/16/2010 12:30:08 AM |

No offense, but either he did something wrong or he wasn't racing you. 0-60 is similar for both cars, but only b/c of the jump an STI would get from its AWD system. Meanwhile in the SL you have to make sure the rear tires go up in smoke. However in the quarter mile the SL's 470hp makes itself known. SL55s run the 1/4 mile in 13.0 @ 111 mph, while the STI runs a 13.2 @ 104. And that's if you shift perfectly; meanwhile in the Benz you just need to floor it and let the car shift for you
From a roll very few cars will best an AMG model, let alone "spank" one.

Still waiting for my STI one day. Either that or putting on a turbo the size of a basketball. Sadly, I can't save up any money. You'd think that without a $400+ car payment you'd be able to save, but somehow it magically disappears into other stuff. 10/18/2010 9:41:51 AM |

If it helps at all, it was slightly downhill. He was definitely flooring it as he hung about half a car length behind me going all the way into 4th gear (for me) so I guess I may have exaggerated by "spanking" him but hell it was my first race (and a very close one at that) in this car and it was exciting .
I'm not sure how fast we got up to but it was at least 80 (probably closer to 90-95) and this was in a 45 so he knew it was a race.
My STI is also slightly modified (K&N intake, Magnaflow exhaust, possibly retuned though I am not sure) which could help account for it, and I am extremely adept at shifting, plus I have a shift light on the tach so I know on my part I was on point.
forgot to mention, I took the car off road again and messed with the locking system and while I could feel a slight difference when lockers were full on while I was drifting I'd still favor to keep it on auto unless the terrain was wet or icy. The lot I was on was sand/gravel and dry.

I don't know if you have a stock downpipe or not, but if you have an aftermarket downpipe your car most likely has a so-called "stage 2" tune. At the very least this increases the boost, and most likely leans the mixture, advances the timing a bit, and advances the intake cam. On an STi that's going to be at least over 300 to the wheels on the more generous dynos

haha considering my insurance doubled from the M Roadster to the STi I probably won't be street racing too often, sorry to disappoint. I only posted the one because it was my first 3 days of having the car
and for the haters I know STi's aren't the fastest cars on the market, but for what I could afford and what I wanted, I'm happy with it.
I'd like to find a dirt course or somewhere I could take it out, anyone know any? Trails, anything that doesn't have giant ruts that'll take out my bumper/rim/etc. 10/21/2010 8:19:33 PM |
