"There is a new protest movement sweeping the US and at its heart are two sticks and a piece of string.

Upon the humble clothes line, a battle line has been drawn that embodies a uniquely American clash of ideas about class, liberty and the environment.

Rules imposed by community associations and landlords forbid tens of millions of home owners to dry their washing outside because, they say, it's unsightly and even lowers property prices.

FIRST. WORLD. PROBLEM.
Jesus, I grew up hanging clothes on the clothes line. There is nothing better than fresh, clean sheets that have been line-dried!

After the panty thief incident, I wouldn't dry my laundry outside unless I lived in a rural area.

same here, so I hang most clothes with an indoor drying rack now

I too, grew up hanging laundry. One of my least favorite chores. it was always hot and infested with mosquitoes out there

I do remember having to take down towels and there was a praying mantis and it jumped on my face and I screamed. Maybe this will be better for everyone involved.

when i was a kid we had a clothes line going from the back porch to a detached garage. there was a pulley at each end. i actually remember playing with that being one of the few chores that was any fun.

I live in Cameron Village, and there are clotheslines all over the place. Nobody uses them though. My grandmother uses one in her backyard to this day, and I swear it is a main reason why she doesn't smell like an old person.

I think in Johnson County they still have a law where you can't hang laundry on Sundays. It's a blue law still on the books

When people ask "Why Colorado/west?", this is one of the examples I use. The meddlesome, selfish attitude that leads people to even care how others do their laundry is less prevalent and acceptable out here.

i hate towels that have been air-dryed, they are all crispy and rough even if you use some softener. my MIL does that crap, i hate bathing at her house.

Hence another reason why I hate HOAs and would do everything I could to not live in a community that has one. While it's nice to have the electric dryer as a backup, I plan on drying my clothes on a line.

My grandmother had SERIOUS clotheslines...and they always got used. The dryer? There if she absolutely needed it, but rarely used.

HOAs can all chomp my miniscule cock. I cannot stand the whole premise of being bound to somebody else's ideas of what good taste is.

I assumed this was due to the number of people who actually got clotheslined by these things... I know i took a few near decapitations playing football as a kid in my grandmas backyard.

yeah, but only the the hipster HOAs are going to get in on that.

like if there was an HOA in the five points neighborhoods. They've probably started them just to be ironic.

what's ironic about saving energy

I think you use the term hipster too loosely sometimes
hipsters are into fashion

and, yes, it is fashionable to save energy right now

fashionable and a very good idea

would you think that you had saved energy if you were able to buy gas for $0.50 less per gallon?

I like using a dryer because it's quicker, convenient and I don't have to worry about the weather, but there's nothing wrong at all with a freshly sun-dried shirt. "Unsightly and even lowers property prices?" Since when?

No because you are a feminized, ultra liberal cuntface who lives off the government - yet still feels self-righteous enough to give us conservation tips.

there you go again with your partial truths
I do not live off the government - but I did borrow SOME money for school through a federal program

I'm not giving you conservation tips either - I'm about to use a dryer

I was just pointing out that you're totally full of shit

yeah yeah

and if they came out banning dryers, where you HAD to use a clothesline instead, you would be on here bitching about that...

I had a housemate who didn't use the dryer to save money. He would string up a clothesline across his room on the days he did laundry.

Then he would cook bread in the oven for like 4 hours a day several days a week, leave the front door open all winter like the glass storm door is some magical insulator, and leave his bedroom window open (cracked) even when there was snow on the ground. Saving energy my ass. That dude was the worst offender in the house.

sounds like your roommate was dumb about energy conservation

and, by extension, everyone else who enjoys air/sun drying their clothing

nice anecdote, though

Unsightly? Are people hanging them from thier mailbox to thier garage door or something?

We have a clothesline on our back deck, and Ill be damned if someone is going to tell us not to use it when we want.

Pretty soon, churches arent going to be allowed to have crosses on them, because they are unsightly and lower property value.

My story started from "I know a dude who does this" and ended in a rant. Totally my fault. Definitely not an anecdote for the rest of the non-dryer-using community.
