Specifically a ~48" round disk, no more than .75-1" thick, like a tabletop. Anyone know where to find something like this? Lowes only has them up to 36" diameter. And before you ask, I already tried EMCE's pants. He wasn't willing to part with it.

cutting a circle ain't rocket science:

1. cut string or 2x4 to desired radius
2. attach one end of string or 2x4 to desired center point
3. attach other end of string or 2x4 to saw and cut circle*

*alternatively you can hold the saw stationary (ie use a bandsaw) and rotate your workpiece

in all seriousness, have you thought about trying one of those unfinished furniture stores? They might have a damaged table they're willing to let go for cheap.

pretty perfect. you think O'brien said "meh we're just strapping some leather to a 2x4 so drunks can slalom behind a boat, how perfect does it need to be?" Well maybe they did the first time around, but you see the craft products they're putting out now.

My family has a history, nay, a legacy of pushing the envelope behind a boat and I don't intend to carry it on half-assed. Besides, and more importantly, it's a gift for my dad so I want to make it a nice piece of work.

Also, the chair is not mounted. Where's the skill in that? The disc is just a disc, everything else you gotta bring with you

That's really the kind of thing I was looking for (short of someone just having one lying around), or a thrift shop or something. Thanks for the link but you're right...this can be had for much cheaper.

Nope, in the water. Must've been some other thread where I explained the process, but you start in the water lying or squatting over the board, with the chair/ladder/6-pack/whathaveyou draped over your head/shoulders/disc in any manner that keeps it with you as you're pulled out of the water. Once you're standing, the hard part cometh: getting that chair whipped out and set up with a free hand, placed in the right spot on the board, and mounted without sliding/falling/porpusing or otherwise eating it.

those cut-off swimmin jorts are awesome. have you tried surfing that thing, then throwing a beer out of the boat and then trying to grab it from the board and circling until you grab it and the beer is gone?

that seems like a fun drinking game. then when the mission is accomplished it is someone else's turn.

^surfing as in scurfing? nah haven't tried that on the disc but i think it has too much lateral surface area, it'd get buffeted badly and be nearly impossible to control. and yeah, he is known for his jorts. whenever he wears out a pair of jeans he cuts them off and wears them on the lake. FINALLY in his old age he's learned that it ain't the '60s anymore and stopped cutting them off mid-thigh

does sound like a fun game...we do get people coming up to us and offering beer or at least hollerin' when we're out on the water. pretty hilarious to watch everyone around us on the lake stop what they're doing for a few minutes just to watch
