I know it's a bit early to really be thinking about Christmas shopping, but this year I am really going to try to actually make my gifts that I buy.

So far I have made a wine bottle cover...

And two hats like this, just different colors...

Anyway, I figured for those of us who enjoy making gifts instead of buying them, we could use this thread for ideas and to share what we have made.

Right now I'm really at a loss of what I can make for my two brothers ages 20 and 18. Neither of them really would be in to anything that I can crochet. I'm thinking that I could always burn a bunch of movies onto some DVDs. But that doesn't seem too homemade, and not very personal. So if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear!

In this thread, pirated movies count as homemade gifts.

last year I did cookies in a jar, teacup candles, and homemade bath salts... I'm pretty sure only my baby cousin used the cookies in a jar (I'm calling you out bmel) but the teacup candles and bath salts were a hit

But I feel like the teacup candles should stay a one time thing... The bath salts on the other hand will be made again

Now I just need other ideas :\

my best friend made me a big collage of pictures of us from a fun trip we went on.
It was 6 months late so it came in 2010, but it was really sweet.

I used to make homecandies and give those out but i feel like people throw them away. One year i made little individual chocolate chess pies which were quite a hit but probably because i delivered them at lunch time.

Hate on my my teacup candles all you want but they were damn good, and raspberry scented, and made with love

and the bath salts smelled like oranges and I went out of my way to actually include ingredients that make your skin soft

Limoncello sounds like a great idea...unfortunately there isn't enough time before christmas to successfully do it.

Also, if you made something you should tell how you made it in case other's would like to make it.

Why not make some money and give it to people?

there IS enough time before Christmas to successfully make limoncello

you can accelerate the process by zesting the lemons instead of peeling them
this increases the surface area and lets the everclear do its thing faster

a teaspoon or two of glycerine added to your limoncello makes it smoother, as well

Even with zesting I'd say you probably still want to let it steep two months, minimum. So there is enough time, but not by a bunch, and the longer you let it go the better.
