What is everyone's opinion on PSL's????
Personally I think PSL's, beyond a moderate percentage of the total seats and club boxes, raises ticket prices alienating a lot of your fan base. Sure as a wealthy charlotte citizen or a BoA employee it probably works out in your favor. A buddy of mine who works for a major bank in Charlotte can pretty much get tickets for free whenever he wants as part of his "perks."
For example back in August I bought tickets to the Arizon v Chargers game. Qualcomm is a non-PSL stadium. The tickets were $130 each (bought 4 of them) and were probably the best seats I have ever sat in for a NFL game. We were on the 25 yard line, 11 rows off the field, just right of the Chargers bench. On the other hand about a month ago, with the panthers already looking miserable, purchased tickets roughly at the end zone. I am sitting about 6 rows off the field and these tickets were $160. My buddy in the same section ended up paying $200. Analogous tickets to my ones from Qualcomm were running for $240-$320. From my experience getting anything in the bottom section of the panther stadium for under $200 is not possible execpt for this year with the team in the gutter. Last year when I bought tickets, my seats were on the panther side 30 yard line Upper section Nose Bleeds about 15 rows up. These tickets cost roughly $140, $10 more than my awesome charger tickets.
Charlotte has a smaller population than SD. Our team was known to be in teh gutter during pre-season (no one was expecting a 2-3 SD in Aug when I was buying tickets). The stadiums have roughly the same capacity. PSL's are the only reason I can think of for this disparity.

Any true fan should loathe them. They’re a money grab, plain and simple. You’re buying to right to buy tickets. You’re playing for the privilege of “owning” a two foot square piece of plastic for three hours, ten days a year. It’s a system where the rich get richer and the poor get fucked over and out.
That said, they’re here to stay. But thanks to the advancements of HDTV, there are only a select few seats in any given stadium where being at the game is preferable to watching at a bar or at home, along with all the price breaks and conveniences that come with those. I for one will never buy a PSL, even if I want season tickets. Craigslist and the street market is always flooded with people looking to unload. 10/12/2010 2:21:59 PM |
