http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/basketball/ncaa/10/21/ban.on.summer.recruiting.ap/index.html?eref=sihp The Conference Commissioners Association votes 31-0 to recommend a complete ban on summer recruiting to avoid issues with the summer travel teams.
Get read for college coaches to go ballistic, since this is essentially the main period when they focus pretty much full-time on recruiting. Pitino is already going nuts. 10/21/2010 4:28:25 PM |

Never heard of the Conference Commissioners Association. What kind of issues come up with the travel teams? Aren't they still going to go to shoe-sponsored tournaments to get seen by scouts? How does shutting down recruiting in this period clean up anything that already goes on in AAU basketball? 10/21/2010 5:33:49 PM |

If they really want to clean up recruiting they would get rid of those crooked ass aau coaches. 10/21/2010 5:44:50 PM |

They must be trying to cut the AAU coaches out of recruiting, but tons of them become "informal advisors/mentors)" which extends into regular recruiting seasons. The summer AAU/all star circuits could become lower profile if coaches couldn't watch and/or make contact, but I don't see that being reversed. 10/21/2010 8:43:21 PM |

I saw that in the paper this morning. I can see why coaches are upset. 10/22/2010 11:26:38 AM |

With the number of these tourneys getting more streaming video coverage, this wont decrease the ability for coaches to SEE recruits ... just be seen by recruits, and be contacted by them. 10/22/2010 1:16:37 PM |

They need to stop having AAU during the school year and impose rules that if a school is recruiting a kid, they cannot hire his aau coach or high school coach. 10/22/2010 1:20:54 PM |
