She didn't say she was Asian. She said that somebody else had called her the first Asian legislator in the Nevada state assembly.

And her reasons for making the comment are actually really, really ridiculous. She was trying to make the point to a school of Latino students that we are such a beautiful, diverse melting pot that you can't even tell people's ethnicity by looking at them (her evidence: somebody thought she was Asian). So don't worry about racism, kids...some of you don't even look Latino!
