Quote : | "(CNN) -- One man was electrocuted and his female partner was severely burned after the couple attempted to steal copper wire from a vacant property in Southern California, police said.
"I believe they thought the power was off," said Lt. Keith Hupp of the South Gate Police Department.
"It was a pretty ugly scene," he added.
A witness said he rushed to the site after hearing an explosion.
"I just heard a loud explosion and a lady screaming, just screaming like crazy, so I walked over there and I seen her like half burned, and she was just like crying, asking for help for her husband," Jose Carrasco told CNN affiliate KABC.
Police said they believe they found the couple's children -- ages 3 and 6 -- waiting in a truck near the vacant property when they arrived at the scene Saturday afternoon.
The woman was being treated for severe burn injuries and listed in critical condition Saturday night, Hupp said, and the children were in the custody of protective services.
Police have not released the names of the victims pending notification of next of kin." |

Their parents are still dead/in critical condition though, which is a sad thing.
By the time you get foster parents, the neglect/abuse you've endured combined with the trauma of being ripped from your biological parents definitely makes things pretty crappy, too. It's not like, "Oh yeah! Foster parents! They're gonna feed me name brand cereal and help me with my homework! WOO HOO!"
Seriously though, it's actually really sad. I'd take a couple of copper thieves as my biological parents over some foster parents any day.10/25/2010 12:20:14 AM |

^^^There are excellent foster parents.
I'm just objecting to this notion that these kids won out because their "bad" parents died.
This is not a happy outcome.
It is sad.

^ oh yea that is true
just cause their parents were idiotic doesn't mean they were bad. kids could have been loved, treated well, etc
i mean, plenty of stupid people raise kids.
and i hate the system. i mean, i'm an advocate of keeping kids out of it if possible w/o serious detriment to the kid. hopefully they have a relative that will take them in??? i mean that seems like the best case scenario.
it just sucks with kids and situations like this - its like the lesser of two evils. 10/25/2010 1:25:03 AM |

do you feel bad for people stealing in other places who have it backfire in their face? how about people who run from the cops and crash and die? they choose to make the wrong decision, it doesn't work out for them, and they learn their lesson the hard way. Yes, I feel bad for the kids, but not for the parents. If someone dies because they OD on drugs, do you say "aww- poor guy" or do you say "well he shouldn't have stuck that needle in his arm."
yes, it is a shitty death, but asking me to feel bad for someone dying as a direct result from their blatant disregard for the law and their own safety? no, I don't feel bad for them.

honestly, i'd like to save my compassion for strangers and put it towards those who didn't ask for the hand they were dealt, like the victims of drunk drivers, rare diseases, and freak accidents (that were not a direct result of their asinine choices) 10/25/2010 8:40:52 AM |

The house was vacant, not abandoned.
They don't deserve anything, they were breaking the law. It just so happens that something bad happened to them.
