[Edited on October 28, 2010 at 1:12 PM. Reason : hell, even "bball" gets you where you are going without you having to get all riled up.]

This is why the failure of Red Hat, and Linux in general, was such a major blow to NC State. If Red Hat's version of Linux had replaced Microsoft Windows then it is likely that Yahoo would have relocated to Centennial Campus. At that point, NC State would have owned the 2 largest internet companies, which would have resulted in a stranglehold being placed upon online media. Yes, SAS is great and all, but the money that Dr. Goodnight gives to NCSU pales in comparison to the amount that he gives to UNC-Cary. I am certain that the NCSU administration has seen the effect that this is having on our alumni, who are now forced to work for slave wages in the Research Triangle Park.

What I would suggest, and many others agree with me on this point, is a complete reboot of the focus of Centennial Campus. If we could somehow find a way to have the College of Engineering relocate to that campus then it would place all of the technical minds in one area. Such collusion could only result in beneficial emergences of sustainable technology for the NCSU colloquium. Advancement and progression is what is needed at the moment, and unless NCSU finds a way to replace old, outdated technology research with cutting-edge, dominant innovation then the university and local area will continue to lag behind other areas in terms of overall grant money. A quick look at our neighbors in Winston-Salem, with particular regards to their investment in biotechnology, provides an ample model upon which future endeavors should be modeled.

Winston Salem State University? Or are you referring to the school where the tuition costs more than the starting salary of a biotechnology degree?
