"was" is a verb
"like" is a preposition
but then there is an independent clause as its object and that is wrong

a better idea is to use "as if" and recast that clause as a dependent clause in the past perfect subjunctive

"was liking" works though

as in: "I was liking her Facebook status, but my computer froze."

This came up because of something completely unrelated.
