this has been...interesting. so i had pretty steady all day type dull nausea for a long time, then the first half of this week i started to feel better around mid-day. i actually felt good a few times, BUT this came with this seemingly random fits of gagging/heaving. i've actually puked only a few times. once the gagging was done, i'd feel pretty decent a few minutes later.

until yesterday around 5pm ish

very strong nausea, LOTS of gagging. felt really really horrible. woke up several times in the middle of the night to spit what felt like cups of saliva into a bucket. still felt awful this morning and don't really feel much better now but the gagging slowed & i made it to work around 130. i'd say last night-now has been more miserable than any of the stuff when this all started. food is back to tasting like ass, but i am eating bland stuff to keep something on my stomach to not make it worse.

all of this is while taking my 8mg of zofran 3x daily. called the doc today & they wouldn't give me anything else. I AM MISERABLE

I'm so sorry. It is miserable, but as I can recall there really isn't anything else to do. Zofran really is the best. The other thing would be to admit you to the hospital and fit you with a continuous phenergan pump, but that will just make you sleepy all the time and I don't think phenergan handles the nausea any better than Zofran. At least you aren't actually vomiting. I know that's not a comfort right now, but that really feels like living death.

I lived off of Ensure. Vanilla Ensure over ice with a straw was one of the few things that was actually good and soothing during my pregnancies.

If you start vomiting, you might want to look into the possibility that you have reflux along with the nausea. I know that starting medication for reflux in combination with the Zofran really helped reduce the vomiting.

*hug*
You really will forget about how miserable you feel right now once you have a baby in your arms.

maybe i'll try those. i tasted one a long time ago & it was worse than ass, but i don't know what flavor or variety it was. i'm willing to try anything right now. i'm lacking in protein in a major way so maybe ensure is the ticket. i want to drink instant breakfast but they told me to watch the dairy.

Why did they tell you to watch the dairy? If it's just because of the nausea, don't knock it before you try it. You never can tell what's going to agree with your morning sickness. Carnation Instant Breakfast is good stuff. When we were working with a nutritionist to put weight on my son, she told us that it was nutritionally comparable to Ensure and Boost and gave us the green light to use it. I drank right much of it while I was pregnant too. (I also threw it up a few times, but never once threw up the Ensure.) And if you need more protein, there's a higher protein version of Boost that is pretty good.

My grandmother hated Ensure, but she liked it when I put it over ice and gave her a straw. That's the only way that I drink it.

they told me if i drink too much milk it could curdle in my stomach bc your system slows down when pregnant or whatever

unrelated, i have this occasional lactose intolerance thing (which makes no sense), but my dad's the same way. i still drink a LOT more milk than most adults though. just some days i can handle more than others.

the only other drink that i can handle significant amounts of right now is cheerwine. i normally love this stuff, but it is like liquid crack right now.

All I could come up with was Designated Hitter, which sort of applied.

in a hilarious way.

^^ I'm so sorry you've been sick. It's no fun at all. The good news is for a lot of folks it'll go away around 12 weeks - for my by 14 I felt MUCH better and by 20 or so it was almost all gone. Regardless you definitely forget how bad it was once the baby is here.

I never heard to lay off the daily when pregnant. That's interesting. I lived off ice cream. It was the one thing that tasted good that I could keep down.

I know you may laugh, but have you tried the sea bands? Once I started Zofran I was still having nausea (and some occasional vomiting) and these helped me a lot with taking the edge off. That only downfall is they look like sweatbands. I wore them even into the third trimester.

When I was pregnant with Amelia, mine was Dr. Pepper. I rarely drink it, but I swear that it helped my nausea.

Baby is due next month and my baby beard is getting ferocious! I cant wait to shave it off.

So far we are about half way through the third trimester and I have no complaints yet. She is starting to become a neat freak and wakes up every morning to cook breakfast, and she brings some for me IN BED

The stress of it is getting to me more than her. I have put on about 10 lbs and completely dropped my weekly exercise routine. I just have a hard time going to go for a run as opposed to going to work.

had an OB appt today. everything looked fine he said. he said it feels like i'm 10 wks (based on whatever he found while poking around down there), but based on my last period & day of ovulation, i'm 9 wks. when they did the ultrasound the other week it measured longer than what's typical for that gestation. maybe it's a big baby...

I measured ahead as well that early, but gave birth to a 7lb 6oz bundle
Oh, but he was 21" and that is a long baby

But yay for OB appts! I loved hearing the heartbeat. We recorded it one appt. it was great to listen to in between, what felt like forever, appts.

I love how our society has every excuse imaginable to grow a beard.

Anyway, the first time I listened to my little girl's heartbeat I immediately though "OMFG THAT SOUNDS LIKE THE WHALE PROBE FROM STAR TREK 4!!1"

I nerded it out and looked it up when I got home and sure enough one of the sounds they sampled for the probe sound was a baby's heartbeat!

did anybody see the reports on the fungicide found in OJ this morning?

i guess this means i shouldn't drink it...? i just finished drinking a glass of simply orange, with oj sourced from the US & brazil according to the bottle, when this report came on the news.

Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/health/2012/01/12/coke-says-it-found-fungicide-in-orange-juice/#ixzz1jIQKqWVi

After reading several articles on the orange juice issue, I wouldn't be overly concerned about it. It sounds like they're finding trace amounts of a fungicide that isn't approved for use in the US because some Brazilian growers are spraying their trees with it. Most OJ is a blend of juices from several countries and I really doubt that these growers have suddenly started using this fungicide out of the blue. If it were a real health concern, I think that there would be an alert or a move to pull the juice from the shelves. I think that this probably isn't a new thing -- just one that's suddenly become news worthy.

So, unless you're guzzling gallons of juice that's solely from Brazil, I wouldn't stress over it.

We had our baby shower that was at our friends house who is a professional chef/caterer. The whole thing was top notch with great food and service; I didn't have to lift a finger. But the dude subtlely said that he wanted a tip, like something ~ $125. So, is it normal to have to pay for baby showers?

I mean, we covered all the food, all of the alcohol and beverages which out us at ~$250. So, does it make sense that our "friend" asked us to throw down some more?

What kind of friend would do that? Seriously, if I offer to throw someone a baby shower I'm not asking for a freaking tip from them. That's just tacky as hell.

yeah if he offered to throw (cater and host) a baby shower for you, then it would be rude of him to ask for compensation/tip from you.

Usually it's not normal for the parents-to-be to have to pay for the shower, since showers are primarily organized and thrown FOR them. The person in charge of the party should have taken care of that. If you asked him to cater your own baby shower then that should have been something you talked about beforehand and then I think a tip is in order, friend or not. But if he was throwing the party for you, then yeah, no way.

Yeah, we asked them to do it. and to his credit he did spend a complete day and a half preppin for it and it was just a banging party. I thought that it was just a strange situation to not have figured this out before hand.

Still, that's just extremely tacky IMO, especially if it was never mentioned beforehand. He should just consider his time to put it together his gift to you. I'm kind of appalled that any friend would do that to someone they consider a friend. Maybe I'm too nice to my friends.

the discussion up front is what should have happened because it does seem like a blind side especially if this person is a friend. Sad you are out that much money.

I must be the only one who disagrees. If you are the organizer then you are responsible for paying and tipping, friend or not friend. Unless the friend said it was a gift to provide catering then you shouldn't have assumed. You wouldn't go to a restaurant, be waited on by a friend and then not tip them when you leave would you?

I feel like those are two completely different scenarios.

I have to get a lot of events catered and tipping is always discussed beforehand because it needs to be included in the budgeting. If I'm having a private party though and the conversation is something like, "Oh hey, I know you're an awesome cook, would you mind making the food for the party? I'll buy the supplies just let me know what you need," then I would be annoyed if at the end of the night that person was like, "Oh yeah btw I want a tip." If the conversation had been, "Hey, I'm having a party and I want you to cater it, draft me an invoice for what everything ends up costing," then that's more me hiring a friend to provide a service than asking a friend to help me out and thus I would tip.

This is exactly what happend. we had offered to take him out dinner, and then he told a friend that told us that he would prefer cash, and then that turned into 125$.

had an appt today & heard the heart beat thru a doppler thingy! we also heard some sort of movement (kick, punch, whatever). the heart rate was in the 120-130 range & the doc said the old wives' tale means that's a boy, but that he's seen many girls born with slow heart rates & boys with fast ones.

oh and yesterday i choked on my apple juice, start coughing like crazy, & threw up all over myself. i wasn't even nauseated.
