Well I guess that's what I call it. It came off the input shaft of my transmission. This new bearing came with my clutch kit and I would like to know how to separte the old bearing so I can put this new one on.

I am probably butchering the terms of these things, I just want to know how to replace and do it properly. thanks guys

ps. i tried pulling apart with my hands no luck. I dont see a way that it comes apart. But I know that it has to.

look it still has the lettering on it. Either this clutch was replaced right before it was pulled or this person drove this car not very many miles before it was chopped up and shipped to the US. interesting

It presses on the pressure plate to release tension on the clutch disk. Just reuse the old one!!!1

Thats called a throw out bearing btw. Pilot bearing is pressed into the flywheel center.

Take the old throw out bearing and throw out bearing carrier (TOB and TOBC) and place them into a bench vise. The old TOB itself should be carrying the weight. Now take appropriately sized socket, place so that it is supported by the portion of the TOBC that sticks through the TOB. Tap gently with a hammer and the 2 pieces will separate. To reverse, just place the TOB face down on a bench and tap the TOBC gently into place.

you don't need a vice

you can use some bricks or 2x4 pieces.

place them so that only the bearing portion is supported by the bricks/wood. use correct socket and drive the other piece off of it.

note: use a Nissan OEM bearing. don't use the bearings that come with clutch kits, no matter how expensive the kits are unless you like hearing bearings whine and groan

if they whine will they go or is that just a sound that they like to make?


I can drop a 240 transmission in 2 hours so if that occurs.. well.. I'll just replace I guess.

also this is a low mileage swap. are you saying i should just stick with the oem bearing since the clutch was in such good shape... or should i swap to this after market bearing ?

Why are you changing the clutch? By the look of things, the release arm may need to be replaced, I'd probably do the needle bearings as well if your release fork has them... And any other rubber bushing, etc. in that area.

Replacing the clutch and pressure plate bc when I bought the engine swap I bought a Bedford clutch setup so that I could turn up the boost a little after putting the engine in. Just taking care of this stuff while engine is out because it is so much easier. Next is timing belt, water pump.

Ok flywheel and throwout bearing done. Picking up a pilot bearing from Nissan for a Na 300zx. I hear they fit. Go nissan!
