Do any of these classes jump out at you guys as being particularly rewarding / easy? I have to add these to my ECE major.

I liked Issues in Global Politics (236), but I took it probably 4 years ago. When I had the class, it was very easy, set up as a seminar. You can in once a week, for 3 hours, and listened to a lecture on different subjects. I believe we had to post online, but there wasn't a final or a paper. Learned a lot of interesting things, and didn't have to put much effort into the course. It may have changed since then though, I don't know.
That said, I highly recommend any of the History classes with Akram Khater (like HI 491). I had Modern Middle East (270) and History of the Israeli Palestinian Conflict (HI 492). He is a difficult teacher, and he will make it a difficult class, but it is immensely rewarding. If you cannot fathom reading extensively, or writing papers more than 15 pages, then I do not suggest you take his class. If you can stomach the work load though, it's one of the better classes State offers. Here's his website, if you haven't seen it: http://faculty.chass.ncsu.edu/akhater/personal/
I also took National Security Policy (PS 437) and it was awesome. Again, lots of reading. About ~30 page final paper. I wrote mine on the susceptibility of the US to a terrorist attack by SCUBA.
I've taken several of the PS or HI classes. Feel free to PM me for more information on any of these.

I only took 5 history classes, and as a generally I found that the more I was interested in the time period & location, the easier the class was, in that the class difficultly wasn't wildly varied from class to class, so how interested and engaged you were with the course made all the difference. 11/18/2010 10:10:49 PM |

I'm going to resurrect this thread if I can since I forgot about it. Thanks for your responses. I'm definitely not looking for 30 page papers to write but I will check out all the suggestions. 1/25/2011 11:53:37 PM |

I'd honestly need to see the titles and I'm not looking them up. 2/1/2011 1:16:52 AM |

YES
I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Khater. He will make you work, but it will be worth it and then some. He certainly doesn't remember who I am but I'd give him a kidney if he needed it.
PS 437 is also good. The professor, Dr. Boettcher, is similarly excellent.
I didn't take PS 236, but the professor -- Dan Figgins -- is highly effective. I wouldn't call him the most interesting man in the world, but if you're OK with that you will learn a lot.2/13/2011 2:04:17 AM |

Thanks for the help, I think I've decided on
Quote : | "AFS (HI) 275 Introduction to History of South and East Africa The African kingdoms (Lunda, Buganda, and Zulu); the European encroachment; the origins of colonialism and the character of colonial societies and economies, South African apartheid; African protest, nationalism and independence." |
and
Quote : | "PS 236 Issues in Global Politics Selected problems facing the world community, related political issues, and international responses to them, including international trade, economic development, wars, arms control, terrorism, ethnic conflict, human rights, status of women, population growth, food security, and environmental degradation." |
If i were in another major I would take 270, but I don't think I'll have time for that.3/8/2011 4:48:34 PM |
