I usually go to Moe's and I always get both black & pinto beans. Then I will get whatever meat I feel like for the day, rice, some the mild/pico salsa, cheese, and cucumber. I prefer cucumber to lettuce.

Do the Chipotles in the area charge a lot for guacamole in their burritos? I know the ones up north charge you an extra $0.75-1.00 for that, which is just ridiculous. I ask b/c I've never been to a Chipotle in the south.

i don't remember. i think it is prob like moe's where some burritos come with it and some don't

like the veggie ones usually come with it. if it doesn't come with it then it is extra.

Chipotle doesn't include chips with their burritos, that's enough to boycott, imo.

not many people know about Baja I think. just being in Mission Valley instead of on Hillsborough street hurt them.

Hot Point at North hills used to have the best burritos!! even if I was sick I could always eat one. I don't know if they still have them or it's kinda now the quesadilla. Also the Cuban sandwich there is awesome!

I think that's because usually they put too many beans in. Beans are cheap so they use that as at least half the filling it feels like.

I seriously think they charged $1.25 for it at the one on Erwin Rd. by Duke Hospital.

Glad this got bumped back up. This thread inspired me. Working in Chapel Hill I went to Cosmic on Franklin and was totally unimpressed. The food was okay, but the restaurant smelled awful when we went there. After that I went to Carrburritos and WOW. Great. Also hit Armadillo Grill and thought it was alright, but not up to the level of Carrburritos, and Chipolte which was also okay but nothing special. This weekend we are making a run to Wilmington and because of this I now know of Flaming Amys and will give them a run to see if they are better than what I have tried. I will probably hit at least one burrito place this week though to try something else. So far I have gone to:

1. Carrburritos
2. Armadillo Grill
3. Chipolte on Franklin
4. Cosmic on Franklin

the El Rodeo on Six Forks had one of the best burritos I've ever had.

Note, that this El Rodeo isn't the typical El Rodeo, like the one on Hillsborough, that is run by Hispanics and has the exact same combination dinners that all 'Mexican' restaurants have.

This place was much different, had a wide variety of foods and fresh ingredients, and reminded me of something you'd find in Cali

Anyway, I don't remember the name of what I got, and the website is down, but it was a huge burrito with chorizo and chicken. I love chorizo on occasion and you can never find it on a menu, except for with eggs or something. Cilantro, fresh tomatoes, cheese, black beans...was a great burrito.

Now I want to go

i think the el rodeo on six forks is not an el rodeo anymore

it changed again. still mexican but something else. maybe the menu / burrito didn't change though?!

but this is prob why the website is down. because it is some other mexican joint now.

I ate there when the sign said el rodeo, but the menu said something different, and the wait staff was ridiculously annoyed by the fact we were patronizing their restaurant, and the food was not that great.

The problem I usually have with burritos at places like Moe's or Chipotle is the meat. The chicken is too dry or the beef is too chewy.

How do you get around this?

its a little more upscale than the average mexican joint (not that it's *that* difficult)...they have more authentic offerings, but i wasn't impressed with it a few weeks ago. won't try it again without a coupon

I don't think I've ever been to a place where the choice is between black and refried. Isn't it usually between black and (non-refried) pinto? At any rate I eat black beans so often that I'll go pinto just to mix it up.

That sounds about par for the course in many burrito places here. Like an extra $1 for one small spoonful of guacamole that ends up all centered in one location in the burrito. Some places also nickle and dime you for sour cream. A $5 burrito becomes an $8 burrito because it has a quarter serving of sour cream and an accidental lump of avocado.

Cheaper than rice? That's the other half I guess. But if you don't get the beans I don't think they put in more meat to fill the void.

I might have to go back and try that place one day. The first and last time I went to that location the service was extremely slow for the number of people that were in the restaurant and food was super cold when it came out. Never went back.

speaking of nickel and diming i can't believe baja charges 50 cents for an extra scoop of pico on your burrito

Chubby's uses WAY too much dough in their burritos, which sucks because their meats, veggies, etc are incredible.
