Also does anyone else's family eat "Hop 'n Jon", collard greens (my mom does Kale), country ham and cornbread on New Years Day? I think hop 'n Jon gives you luck, collards give you money and country ham is supposed to give you health. I was trying to explain this to someone the other day and they had never heard of it.

we eat collards and black eyed peas. collards for the green cash, peas for the coinage is what i've always been told. granny usually has some kind of pork with it, usually the pieces of ham she used to make the broth for the collards. sometimes ham hocks, etc. she makes cornbread too, but it's probably not the kind you people think of when you think "cornbread". i can never explain it.
