So, I am going to try various methods. Usually I just don't bother but I love this hoodie so much and today was a windy day. That string would have kept the wind at least from getting to my ears and cheeks.

If you have any ideas on how to achieve this goal, post them ITT.

straighten out a clothes hanger, bend one end back so that it doesn't snag, run it through the hole and out the other one. tie on your string, pull it back through.

[Edited on November 29, 2010 at 3:16 PM. Reason : just like running wire in a boat's chase tube lol]

i pull the strings out of my hoodies. i never use them and i don't like folks having a rope around my neck they can grab hold of. same reason i think neckties are retarded.

nope. best way is to tie the end onto a paperclip and use the paper clip like a needle and thread it through. I've done this numerous times and it always works.

paper clip or safety pin attached to string

stick it in one end, bunching the fabric up
grab the other end through the fabric and unbunch the slack.
repeat this, bunching and unbunching the clip though until done

why would anyone with access to a coat hangar use a paperclip instead?

1. Faster
2. Easier
3. No chance of punching a hole in the cloth
4. Doesn't destroy a hanger
5. Works when threading something longer than a hanger

no actually a hangar is faster and easier, since you do much less bunching and unbunching based on the larger size...and a paperclip can punch a hole in fabric too

so basically your argument is paperclips are better because you don't destroy a hangar...

No we won't.

^^
Wrong and wrong.

A hanger is not faster, because of the time to get and bend the hanger correctly.

Also, you don't unbend the paper clip. It has no chance of punching a hole.

Also, it's spelled 'hanger'.

Haha... I do that.

Treetwista also forgets that metal hangers are harder and harder to find.
Paper clips and/or safety pins are nearly ubiquitous.

Yeah, works to tear a hole in the fabric, just like the coat hanger does...

If you tear a hole in the fabric with the coat hanger you aren't doing it right.

The hanger method just keeps getting more involved...

Hey! Guess what? Both paper clips and safety pins are already bent on the ends....

Also, how do you tie the string to the end of the hanger? Wouldn't you have to bend that end too? or tape it on?
(too involved, when a simple fucking paper clip gets the job done fast)

Because your house is old, and you're not well organized.
Everyone generally knows where their paper clips or safety pins are kept....

What's with the key lime pie?

haha so only old and poorly organized houses have an abundance of metal coat hangers in the closet

No, I was saying that metal ones are hard to find, as in, most are plastic these days...
And the other statement was not directed to you...
I was saying that old houses generally already have plenty of metal hangers, and not [newer] plastic ones,
and that [assuming you have paper clips, that are available everywhere, for cheap as shit, that can be used for a millions things, so why the fuck wouldn't anyone have them] not being able to find your paper clips implies that you're disorganized.
(whatever)

Try this:
Go somewhere and do the coat hanger method. Watch as a room full of people, of all ages and backgrounds, laugh at you, saying, "Where's your paper clips or safety pins? That's how you do that...."

I didn't read any of the responses- but I always do the same thing for this and for athletic shorts that lose the band

I attach a safety pin to the string and work it threw the loop

I had this problem today actually. I put a safety pin through one end, closed it, and worked its way around to the other hole. No fabric tears, and took less than 5 minutes.

I think the paperclip method is harder than the wire hanger method. Its a pain in the ass reinstalling tie-strings to basketball shorts with the paper clip

That said, I'll do the paperclip because I'd rather not fuck with unbending and basically destroying a hanger
