Who's doing it tomorrow? I think I'll be starting around 7, with a group of 8 or so people.

Gonna be great bar hopping in the chilly weather!

I did not, and don't care. I didn't realize there was an age limit on bar crawls...in fact I just looked, there isn't.

TKE-Teg you bring up a decent debate. Should alums be able to do the Hike too? I think so. I think it would be great if young alums especially did it. The more the merrier I say. Now I don't think 30 year olds should be out there pounding beers and taking shots like they were 21 again, but I feel it's a good family vibe if alums are out there reconnecting with the students like they do at the tailgates. I would consider myself lucky to be 40 and sitting at Porter's with my future wife and old State friends conversing with students over a beer.

yeah, but the Hillsborough hike for most students is to just get wasted. And what adult wants to talk to a bunch of wasted kids?

grad school brings a whole different element... I just finished grad school, and thus still have a ton of current grad school friends who I regularly hang out with. I tailgate with them and hike with them (well, sometimes) and I don't feel out of place. (I'm 30... ages in the group range from mid 20s to low 30s, with a couple older sometimes when professors come out) Of course, we don't act like we are 21 either.

saw my morning jacket in cary the night of the spring hike this year and went over to hillsborough st afterwards and couldn't deal with it. then again it was also like midnight and everyone was shit faced so that probably had something to do with it too.

there was this crazy girl in the group that I went with, who I found out later was all drugged out. But she got into a fight with the bartender and then the doorman at Five O' Clock. Something about how she paid money for a beer and then the bartender took it away and threw it in the garbage or some nonsense. She stood outside the bar for a good 15 minutes arguing with two bouncers about them giving her $1.50 back.

It was 1:42 am. I payed the bouncer so he could pay her and we could leave to get our drink on before the next bar closed

FUCK FIVE O CLOCK

THEY ARE ALWAYS TRIPPIN

They probably did sell her a beer and then throw it away. I was bowling one night and came in there afterwords to have a couple of beers and the guy would not serve me because I was drunk........

I was like let me get this straight, I was not too drunk to bowl, an activity that requires walking forward, stopping abruptly, and throwing a heavy ball in a straight line......but I am too drunk to sit on a fucking stool?

Fucking amateurs.

I would not drink beer there if they were free. I am gonna side with the chick in this case and say they probably took her beer even though she was not causing a disturbance in which case she had a right to be pissed.

I got no problem with alums going to the hike and whatnot. It's more a mindset than anything.

And I don't mean, "Age is just a state of mind!" I mean, "Being a 30 year old who likes to party is fine, being a 30 year old who is actively creeping out young ladies and pathetically trying to act like he's 20 is not fine."

I had a good time Friday night, but how I spent almost $70 is lost on me. Although granted by the time I got to EV and Farmhouse I was pretty loaded

However, based on observations made over the course of the evening I don't feel like most students do the hike. They just take the lame ass easy route of just going to a few popular bars along the way and say they're "hiking".

To wit, my group started just after 7 at Player's Retreat and the bar maid said hardly anyone had come through yet. Then at David's Dumpling & Noodle Bar, Sadlacks, Sylvia's, Porters and El Rodeo hardly anyone was in there drinking. Mitches had a decent crowd but then 5 O'Clock and Western Lanes (or whatever it's called now) were freaking packed, as were most other places after that.

So...where'd all the freaking people come from? Bunch of lame ass college kids forgoing the tradition

that sucks. i don't think i've ever finished the hike completely with out being too drunk to proceed. made it to EV bus that's about it. I did however drink at every single spot that serve alcohol on the way.
