^^ I use to do property research and planning for the DOT, basically my job was getting things ready for litigation. There are multiple meetings and hearings, but eventually they decide what your property is worth, make you an offer for the part they want, and there isn't really a whole lot you can do to stop it. I saw people with a lot more money than that guy lose property to right-of-way.

Whether it's true or not, I dunno, but the implication is that his cancer could have been at least partially caused by the mold that's been growing in his basement ever since this mess was started.
