I am trying to plan a birthday dinner for a friend, it will be about 8 people and his parents...does anyone have a good suggestion on where to go in the Raleigh area...not too expensive or loud

Does Amedeo's still exist? If they do, I'm sure they're desperate for business. Go there.

you should have remembered that serious things go in the lounge... not chit chat..
which is counter intuitive... i sling more bullshit in lounges then anywhere else irl.

Yeah, just ask a mod to move it to "The Lounge". You'll be fine.

the fuck kind of response do you expect for that content-free question

okay, birthday, raleigh, about eight people

"not too expensive," who the fuck asks where they can eat that is too expensive

"not too loud," who the fuck asks where they can eat that is too loud

ain't even told us how old these people are, whether they have dietary needs, what your broke ass thinks is expensive, etc.

fuckin' baby town frolics

i had a really fun birthday at mcdonald's once

the one that was on falls of the neuse where red hot and blue is now (if it is still there)

it had the indoor playground with a mini merry go round. and i think there was a slide. and astro turf.

Yeah J.Betski's is the heat. Best thing to do there is sit at the bar and just snack on small plates and beer. The bartender there is really chill so it's nice chatting with him while hanging out.

We go to Chili's every year for my birthday. They give us the corner booth and sing the Coom Bye Ah Birthday song. Also they give us free chocolate cake. I give them my full endorsement.

What's too expensive. Please advise.
Also what do you mean too loud. Too loud like an all death metal all the time soundtrack, or too loud like a place where everything echoes off of everything else (think 518 West if you've ever been there--I really do like it but the conversation always turns into a dull roar because of the high ceilings/tile floors/brick walls/open spaces/etc).

We went to Flemings for my birthday this year. Reserved the private room. They gave everybody free truffles (which were pretty good) and us a $100 gift certificate for reserving the room.

A good time was had by all and the food was good. Wasn't that cheap though. After drinks and everything I'd say each person probably spent about $50.

I'm hijacking this thread.

Where are good places in Raleigh to go for small plates? I like J. Betski but I want to try somewhere new. I've heard Frazier's really revamped their menu and also that Humble Pie is good. Anywhere else worthwhile?

The Duck and Dumpling in downtown Raleigh is good, but may be too expensive depending on your interpretation of "too expensive".

there's a cool "upscale" chinese place on glenwood avenue called neo china that is full of naked women statues. that's always good for a laugh especially if the birthday friend is a guy! food is great too, i recommend the imperial chicken

Sitti

Davids Dumpling

tavernagora (sp?)

none are loud, all reasonably priced (and different than your casual american)

The one time I went to Five Star the staff were rude as hell to us. This was way back when they first opened and I had no idea they were still around so hopefully it's changed since then.
