Inspired by the Sylvia's pizza thread.
Miami Subs was one of mine. One of the few places that used white american and not provolone for their cheese steaks. Plus the drive through was awesome; allowed me to grab one on the night of my 21st, courtesy of theDuke866 12/11/2010 6:45:13 PM |

Chick-fil-a. They don't have them out here
But on a smaller, local scale, I would have to say "NYP." The couple times I've been back in the area I make it a point to stop at these two places.

It may have been the wrong style of bbq but I actually miss Blue Moon on Hillsborough. They had great cornbread.
Also +1 to Hard Times. Unfortunately, never made it to the Rathskeller before it closed. 12/12/2010 12:06:31 PM |

They did not close; in fact they are expanding. (There are now Char-Grills in Durham and, evidently, Kernersville.)
The poster in question no longer lives in Raleigh (so I infer) and, hence, misses the still-extant restaurants Char-Grill and NC Seafood.12/13/2010 1:11:18 AM |

Honestly...Bojangles. The Bojangles' down here in Charleston blow. Other than that...nothing. There isn't anything I can't get down here that isn't a level above stuff that I used to "love" in Raleigh. But when I'm craving Bojangles down here, I get 12/13/2010 7:33:27 AM |

One time I was at a Bojangles somewhere west of Raleigh and they had grits on the menu. I was like "suhweeettttt!!!!" and I ordered them only to find out that their grits were terrible. It tasted like a northerner made them or something.
By the way...Flying Biscuit has some dank grits. I know it's hard to turn down the moon dusted potatoes in favor of anything that's not moon dusted potatoes, but this is worth it. I'm telling you...get the grits.

There is a Char-Grill in Durham now, you know. Corner of 54 and 751, in front of the big Harris Teeter.

Evidently they just renovated the hell out of it; pretty much nothing left of the original place or menu. Restaurant reboot into "Darryl's wood-fired grill". Which annoys me--I have good memories of that place from growing up, and then of the one on Hillsborough before it went downhill. It was nice to have that one left (one or two--when I ate there maybe 4 years ago, we asked the server if that was the last remaining Darryl's and he said that there was still one in Orlando also. )12/21/2010 2:24:04 PM |
