There's this place called Rocklands. Excellent BBQ. It is within 50 miles of me (3 miles, actually). It is also fairly inexpensive, and you get a ton of food.

You're welcome.

Ole Time is kind of mediocre...

What gets me is that there aren't more barbecue places around here. I don't know that many that do pulled or chopped pork eastern or Lexington style.

Of course if you go to Garner or Zebulon, there's Smithfield's, which I love, though they don't have the best pig I've ever eaten...the place is more than worth going to for the fried chicken alone.

Then there's Clyde Cooper's, which I think is damn tasty, but a little on the pricy side.

But I am from Smithfield, and the best pig in Smithfield is not from Smithfield's. Holt Lake is the real deal.

What's a BBQ place in Raleigh or Durham that doesn't suck and will be open past 8pm?

The closer to Brier Creek the better but I can't think of any BBQ places out that way.

The Pit has excellent barbecue and the best sides but is pricier. Cooper's, Ole Time are pretty solid. I love Ole Time's hot barbecue sauce and potato salad. Farmer's Market is decent with pretty good sides. There is a new barbecue place across the street from Cooper's, Dickie's I think that has decent beef brisket if you are looking for that.

From Brier Creek Bullock's in Durham is about as close.

Ole Time closes at 8pm. Pretty sure Cooper's closes around then too.

The Pit is open later but you should make reservations for dinner. Farmer's Market Restaurant is not open for dinner.

All the Smithfield's are open until 10 or so I think.

hear me out, but we've started going to the Barbecue Lodge on Capital

I'm from Wilson, so I know a little thing or two about bbq

for all-you-can-eat, it's about $12 + tip (a waitress brings you more food when you ask for it)

Blah yeah I guess we'll just do the Pit since I know they're open late. Didn't want to spend that much on BBQ but c'est la vie

My lab caters in from Danny's BBQ in RTP fairly often and it's pretty good. The bacon potato salad is the absolute best thing on the menu tho...

The RTP location closes at 2, but they have them in Cary and Morrisville too and they're open til 830/9

Holt Lake burned down for the what? Second time? Third time? This last year...and they have yet again rebuilt it. Mom and Pop reported back and said that the interior was much more pleasing to the eye, and the food is the same as ever.

I think I'm gonna have to go get me some pig at Holt Lake SOON. Damn, my mouth is watering.

Danny's BBQ in Cary is right across from my job and absolutely SUCKS! Hate I even tried it. That's def not "good" BBQ.

Now, Stephenson's is really good! I haven't been there in several years either, but we'd go there quite a bit when my stepdad and mom played USSSA softball at Walnut Creek.

I'm of the opinion that the minimum tip for these types of establishments is 20% even if they provide bad service.

Also, I like Coopers BBQ in downtown Raleigh...also great.

Bullocks in Durham is good as well.
