Phydeaux is a cool little pet supply shop in Carrboro. They had lots of pet toys, beds, specialty foods, and all that. I haven't been in a while, but their old shop was near the vet clinic where I used to work in Carrboro (although I think it moved b/c the rent was too damn high in downtown Carrboro).

Anyways, they just opened a second shop in downtown Raleigh beside Peace College if anyone wants to check it out.

http://phydeauxpets.com/product/12476.html?Category_Code=DogTravel

Just an example of some of the weird stuff they carry:

Quote :
"This pack was designed to be an everyday pack with excellent performance, fit and functionality. Comfort-fit Web Master Harness frame ensures good structure, stability, and load dispersion. The five-point adjustable fit accommodates dogs of all shapes and sizes. Good for one-hour to three-day hikes. Use to offset your load or for training and exercise. The Approach Pack gives your dog a load to carry and a job to do, generating instant four-legged motivation."

You can get chinchilla food, your bird cleaning washing supplies, and cat vitamins all in one place. Plus tons of herbal/organic/way too fancy to be spending this much money on a pet stuff there.

Is that padding to allow you to safely punt your small dog without potentially injuring your kicking foot? I hear it works great for training small dogs who nervously pee on everything.

Went there last weekend and meant to make a thread about it them. Best pet supply store I've ever been to, and the people working there seem pretty rad to boot. Although they did have a crate big enough to put at least two or three grown humans in, which was kind of scary.

I used to know a guy online who went by the name "Phydeaux" and was arrested for child pornography.

Place is very nice, food and treats are definitely towards the organic side, not even sure if they cary Iams/Eukanuba type stuff at all. Dog toy prices weren't too high, they didnt have any ultra low end stuff, but the prices for mid grade items were similar to petsmart.

Its a chain....guess there has been a successful one in chapel hill for a few years now.

This would be something that got started in Carrboro.

That town gives me the creeps.

The bird food I used to buy from my vet's office is almost TWICE as expensive as the same food from Phydeaux. So it's WAY cheaper for me. It's $15 vs. $8 for the exact same bag of Roudybush.

Also, most of the foods they sell aren't offered at the chain stores. They only sell grain-free foods. No Eukanuba, no Science Diet, no Purina. It's like Whole Foods for pets.

And there's only the two stores. It's not any more of a chain than the Hillsborough St. and Mission Valley Cup a Joe.

Also, the grand opening is Dec. 18th! Free people and pet food giveaways!

The travel pack for dogs isn't weird at all. Well I suppose it is if you are someone that has never done an extended hike with dogs before. Basically you use that so that the dog carries all of its food, water, etc. so that you don't have to carry the extra weight. My sister and brother in law have one for each of their dogs as they go on week long hiking excursions with the dogs.

Essentially you turn your dog into a pack animal.

Random bit of trivia. One of the shop keepers from the original one in Carrboro (before it moved to Chapel Hill) ran for Carrboro Mayor in 2009. She lost, but was the only challenger to the incumbent.

First Time Out, now Phydeaux. It looks a lot of Chapel Hill businesses are escaping exporting to Raleigh.

Ask for Jordan. I sleep with him and he's really knowledgeable about dog nutrition. He makes raw food blends for our dog and pretty much fixed her weird skin allergy problems.

But I'm biased. Because of my lust.

Can I be that asshole . . . oh who the fuck am I kidding, I am that asshole.

I find it funny that all these clever little shops of pointlessness seem to pop up in left leaning towns (Carrboro, Asheville, Seattle etc) that supposedly decry waste, bourgeois superfluity, or captialist consumerism.

The fucking Native Americans didn't have ruffwear backpacks for their dogs, they tied together fucking sticks and made sleds for them to pull!!!!1one

I'm glad they're getting in on the game though, just wish they'd drop the pretentiousness. Oh and clever fucking name.

I checked this place out yesterday. It was a lot bigger than I was expecting. Ended up getting a leash and a fleece jacket. I was impressed by their raw diet and camping gear selection.
