I have never had this. When you mentioned it in the Chubby's thread it made me want to try it though. Obviously I need to go to Chubby's soon.

I'm drinking some from Chubby's right now

Chubby's is so delicioso because they make it from scratch not from a mix. Every other place I've tried around here it has that fake cinnamon flavor.

"United States

In the U.S., rice-based or morro horchata is served in many Mexican restaurants, and the horchata de chufas (tigernut) is virtually unknown. Rice-based horchata is also sometimes available in U.S. grocery and convenience stores, especially in Hispanic neighborhoods. In early 2011, the first shelf-stable, ready-to-drink 15 oz canned horchata is coming to these venues under the brand name "Madrinas Horchata".[citation needed]

Some Hispanic bars in Southern California use horchata as a mixer in a cocktail known as a "Rice Rocket". The drink is made of two parts horchata, one part coconut-flavored rum, and a dash of Goldschläger over ice."

^^ I don't know if that sounds good or not. I'm not sure about the coffee mixing with the chai-esque taste of the horchata.

you should try it...if you like sweet lattés (which i do), it's great

that said, when i make horchata for a latte, i don't use almonds...not because i don't like it that way, but because i rarely have almonds just sitting around in the house and while it provides another flavor in the latte, i don't really like it any better than without

[Edited on December 14, 2010 at 3:00 PM. Reason : i also skip the sugar and just use a splenda/stevia packet per cup]

what does horchata have to do with almonds? i thought they used tigernuts?

Upon investigation it looks like dirty mexicans use RICE, and spanish use tigernuts - but dont see anything about almonds

I don't even know what the hell a tigernut is! Thanks to this thread, I have learnt something new and have to wait till the summer to find this mythical drink

(going to Italy and/or Spain in the summer... I wonder if they will have it in Italy, in a Spanish restaurant... if Spanish restaurants exist in Italy!)

Thanks TWW! (primarily wolfpackgrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr)
