I was delayed 4 hours in Charlotte yesterday because the flight attendant that was supposed to be arriving from RDU was late. And apparently they have no backup or reserve flight attendants.

I've always wondered...Is there anything stopping you from buying a fifth at the duty free store, pouring it into water bottles in the bathroom, disposing of the bottle/packaging and sipping on that throughout your flights/layovers? I know it is supposed to be for international flights only, but do they actually check your plane ticket? Airport drinks are usually too expensive for me to buy.

I feel like the only thing stopping you would be boarding the plane hammered. So as long as you can keep it cool...that plan is genius.

That being said, my flight is to FL connecting through Philly. All flights in Philly are canceled. I booked a rental car and am now on an epic 12 hour road trip...more beer??

They do in Thailand. No idea about the US but I would assume so.

I was delayed MCO-CLT-RDU yesterday

And yes, they check your boarding pass at the duty-free stores in the US.

No, this won't work for domestic flights. I have never seen a case (here or abroad) where they don't check/scan your ticket to make sure you are leaving the country. I've even found it to be relatively common that they won't even let you take possession of your duty free items until you are walking onto the plane.

You're not even supposed to unseal the packaging until you've cleared customs in your destination country but I've seen quite a few people crack open bottles of liquor in flight.

^ Good to know. I've never bothered to buy anything at the duty free store, so that's why I was asking.

Our flight to LGA got cancelled and now we are on standby to Charlotte. We didn't make the cut for the 5:20 and if we don't make the next one it'll probably be thursday before we can get back.

My friend was supposed to fly out of NYC via Delta today. Unfortunately, the next time he can get a flight out with his points is on 12/30. Not the worst place to get stranded.

I hooked him up with a few nights at the W hotel in midtown for $89 a night, so he'll be fine.

I feel bad for folks who are stuck and have to pay full price for a hotel room during a pretty insanely expensive time of year.

I was gonna stay at that hotel when I went to AC this summer! Definitely not a bad place to be stranded.

App State has their own apartment up there. If you're a student or alumni you can stay for $30/night

We're supposed to be flying RDU to LGA tonight...the web site says it's going to be on time. Do you people think that's accurate, or should we call?

I'd call, but they'll tell you it's on time now..then when you're at the airport they'll cancel it. That's what happened to me. I ended up renting a car and driving to FL because I had to be back for work today.

Stuck in JFK on Sunday after not being home for a week, I was lucky I got a flight out of La Guardia Tuesday night... most people who were on my flight into JFK don't get to go home until tomorrow or Friday. I'm lucky I have relatives in NY :]

I woke up yesterday morning to my plane out of Oakland being delayed 2 hours, which would have made me miss my connection out of Midway. Then like 2 hours before scheduled, it was magically only delayed only 15 minutes. Ended up being 45 minutes late so I thought I had 15 minutes to get from gate to gate and my luggage switched.

Then my flight to RDU got delayed two hours. Finally got home a bit after 1am... not the worst travel day I've ever had (that is reserved for a connection in Philly delayed 8 hours -- 5 of those on the plane at the gate).
