Are they needed for interior work done in a house (basement).

Putting up walls, electrical outlets, ceiling, bathroom in a basement.

I know they are needed for stuff done outside of the house, but i've never heard of permits being needed for interior work.

Putting up a wall/ceiling - Probably need a mechanical permit.
Adding electrical outlets - Yep...Electrical permit.
Plumbing - Yep...Plumbing permit.

$72 each.
$60 re-inspection if it fails for any reason.

yes. if you are the home owner you can pull them yourself. if not they you need a gc to do the work.

def. need the permits.

not getting the permits leaves you open to a couple of potential future CF's.

1. if you ever sell the house, a good buyer's agent will require record of the permitted work and CO. this would be a huge pain in the ass after the fact.

2. permits and inspections insure that whoever you hire to do the work at least does it to code.

3. most unpermited improvements are NOT covered under your homeowners insurance...meaning, if a fire or other problem was determined to have started in the unpermited renovated area, your claim could be denied.

you could probably get away with not pulling a mechanical permit, if its just a simple metal stud and drywall wall. But you'd want to wait on installing drywall on one side if that wall has outlets in it for the electrical inspection
