It's the large bank looking place with the drive-thru tellers and ATMs right where you turn in to go to K-Mart.

My father in law was at that same bank a long time ago when it got held up. the robber was two people ahead of him in line.
Apparently there were no hysterics, the robber just went up to the teller and said he had a weapon, they gave him money and he walked out. then my father in law had to stay in the bank for two hours while they searched the area/interviewed everyone 12/30/2010 2:57:30 PM |

I literally left that bank about 8 minutes before that transpired.
also, it always bothers me when something is merely described as a "gray SUV". Isn't someone there familiar at all with automobiles? Surely, someone saw her leave, yield to traffic, take off, etc.

I'm sure a fool like you would think that killing an armed robber would be more dangerous than letting him have his way (Which may, in fact, involve killing you).
You know, not all robbers are rational people. I swear I don't understand this idiotic mentality that assumes violent criminals are all nice people trying to minimize collateral damage. Some of them kill for the hell of it. Having the option of shooting back is not a "bad bad bad bad idea". It's an OPTION. You don't have to use it, you know.... It's there in case the need arises. There are plenty of people who never fire a shot during a robbery despite being armed. There are times when it's not needed, however, there are also times where it IS needed. Being prepared gives you the OPTION to make that decision should the need arise. Good, good, good, good idea.

It's hard to go back to low end production knives man. You've got to see and handle these customs in person. Even a Spyderco Military seems REALLY "production-like" in every way and I like the higher end Spyderco knives. For a beater though, I'm sure that S&W would work fine.
I have a feeling I'll pick up a small Chris Reeve Sebenza for a production beater sometime soon, but I've got 3 customs being built right now so it will be a while.

9/11 was only successful because of the comply mentality people had up to that point..........they were only armed with box cutters and hijacked planes full of able bodied people, murdered the pilots, and then murdered everyone else by crashing the planes.12/30/2010 6:36:24 PM |

Yep. They call it SEU (Selective Enforcement Unit).
But they ain't gonna help out much if the suspect is already long gone as was the case here.
Their main objective is to respond to barricaded subjects or hostage situations of which this was neither. 12/30/2010 6:43:46 PM |

You were lucky. Otherwise you would have been held there awhile while being interviewed.

Witnesses are more times than not only able to give the basics because they are too busy not paying attention to what is going on around them. Rarely do you have a situation like this (Bank robbery on Capital @ Mini City back in 2009) where the suspects fall into your lap:

That:s not what your post implied. Your post impled the tellers should brandish a gun at the robber. That seems like a great way to get shot by someone who wasn:t initially going to fire on you. I guess you could get lucky though and their gun is unloaded.

is not an implication that employees should "brandish" guns. It's a mere statement of fact, the fact that they never seem to be armed during these encounters.
The problem is that your perception of what happens in an encounter like that and mine are so vastly different that you envision some movie shit. Look, if the gun comes out it should be going off very shortly thereafter. I never once suggested that you pull out a gun when somebody else is pointing one at you and give them time to shoot you. If they are unaware that you're armed you can use that to your advantage in a moment of weakness. The robber is often nervous and has to cover a lot of area visually. They will likely be looking around. If 5 employees have guns, he is bound to not be looking at one of them at some point and they can take that advantage and shoot him. This is my point. Even one armed teller may have an opportunity as long as his focus goes off them for even the blink of an eye. An no, you don't wave a gun around like an idiot in front of a robber who is pointing one at you already. That is what we call "idiotic".
