my anatomy professor last year made the statement that the models you see in anatomy/physiology books only represent 70-75% of the population, and that non lethal defect are extremely common.

this thread will be dedicated to the idea that for every 4 of us on here one of us has a major defect.

the first one i will bring up is the horseshoe kidney:

One of my best friends was born with no stomach and all of his intestines outside of his body. They made a small stomach out of his large intestine iirc. He had a really rough start for the first 10 years or so, but he's in awesome shape now. I think he said there are four other people in the world with his organs configured the way they are or something like that. It's going to be crazy if he ever has to have emergency surgery by someone other than his usual doctors.

I had two Cervical Ribs, which isn't that huge a defect (although it is rare and even more rare to have two), except that mine were pretty large. Had surgery in 07' to get the left one taken out because it was theorized that it was causing my chronic pain.. turns out that it really wasn't the root cause
