Police did not release the names of the boy and his father, but neighbors identified them as 13-year-old Cayden Allen and Curtis Allen. Two men in the box truck were taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. This is the third fatal crash at the intersection since 2002 and the fourth since 1999, according to the state Department of Transportation. Two wrecks occur at the intersection in an average year, the agency said. DOT engineers are trying to determine whether any changes can be made to make the intersection safer. My family owns three of the four corners of that intersection and these types of accidents happen there relatively frequently.

As a kid, my grandmother kept blankets and sheets specifically for wrecks at that crossroads. It almost always involves someone running that stop sign despite the sign and flashing red light.

I have the SHP communications audio from this mornings pursuit but don't feel comfortable sharing it
at this time...it is very difficult to listen to and the last time I heard radio traffic this tragic was back in 2002 when
RPD Officer Charles Paul lost control of his motorcycle on I440.

From what I understand that was a past mug shot. Rumor has it they could not post the current mug
shot because the suspect fell down a few times and injured himself after he was finally stopped and brought into custody.
Still trying to verify other details but it has been a tough morning for the SHP. I know there are plenty of times when
they deserve grief over past indiscretions but this is not one of those times. Trooper Demuth was a good, kind guy
who was just trying to get this A-hole stopped.
