Looks like Pandora is slowly converting all of its listeners into hipsters.

this.

i found arcade fire, ratatat, september, k-os, & the blow. i find a lot of my music via commercials/tv actually. examples: basia bulat, citizen cope, feist, florence + the machine, ingrid michaelson, massive attack, phoenix, shiny toy guns, tim myers, tom mcrae, & yael naim. i'm a little late to the party with most of them but i don't care.

the massive attack thing is a little shameful, though

lol i really don't understand why you people care so much. if you're trying to make me feel bad for some reason, it's not going to work. i don't care. i like the one song that is in the house intro thing & didn't hear it until then. the end.

not trying to make you feel bad, its just odd because everyone I knew listened to them all the damn time... especially when Tricky got big and was all over the place for about 3 years and that led more people back to Massive Attack

This thread is also a pretty good example of why no one who uses the word hipster knows what the fuck they're talking about

Bands that are in damn car commercials are getting labeled hipster music

Jack Kerouac called Neal Cassady a hipster in 1950 and I bet he wasn't talking about fucking Band of Horses

my musical tastes have changed a lot since i was young. i've hung on to tool though. i would not have liked bands like massive attack back then. that type was not my cup of tea.

I, too, was surprised when "the house theme song" was played on my pandora station. Music retardation or my young age, I would of never known it was massive attack.

You really have to use it actively for it to make good suggestions. The more you rate and the wider variety of music you rate, the more suggestions you'll get that are likely to match your interests.

I was really bummed when I found out pandora was blocked at my new job due to bandwidth issues.

^use your phone!

yeah for all the pandora haters, when it discovers songs/bands i haven't heard of, it's when i'm lazy and dabbling into genres i barely know, pandora does a pretty decent job of playing good shit i haven't heard of.

it's also really good at pulling random live versions of classics i've never heard. i hadn't heard any of the led zeppelin bbc sessions

there was a tremendous amount of press when the zep bbc stuff came out on cd

i own that shit, and i'm not huge on zep

also jukeboxes should only have 45s in them; although i respect the ability to pull deep cuts, quality b-sides are just as good, if not better

the only pandora station i've ever really liked is based on "cut yr hair" by pavement

that station has never played a song i didn't like

I didn't learn about Massive Attack until the group was featured in one of the Pure Moods albums; also some other artists may come to mind but I thought "Walking on Air" by Kerli was good after it showed up.
