LOWES ALL THE WAY!

Home Depot seems cheap and unorganized, as well as annoying. LOWES FTW!

neither

no one in either of those stores knows anything about tools or appliances

though it seems from my experience that the people at lowe's somehow know less

My town (Sparta) used to have store #2 of both lowes hardware and lowes foods (both started in Wilkesboro, same family)

They closed the lowes hardware though

I'd rather buy from somewhere like Burke Bros. or Jondis, Lambert's, etc. in Smithfield (power equipment) than shop at either Lowe's or Home Depot. While both carry a lot of shit, they both fucking suck. We need to support more small bidness.

Of the two, definitely lowes. I get so happy when I walk in a lowes. I dare say the feeling is not dissimilar to a post-coital endorphin rush

[Edited on January 10, 2011 at 4:35 AM. Reason : though +1 for Burke Bros.]

Home Depot got them Ridgid tools if you're looking for real workhorses (at a workhorse prices) but...
"Best of all, the tools and included batteries are backed by RIDGID's Lifetime Service Agreement. Free Batteries. Free Parts. Free Service. For life."

Personally, I have no need for such things and will get the cheapos from Harborfreight Otherwise, I go to Lowe's just 'cause it's closer.

Home Depot caters to the contractor or business.

Loews caters to the home owner.

when i work downtown i go to the seaboard ace but they dont always have what i need. and the "local" stores that would have what i need are a lot further out.

They're like a block away from each other at Crossroads, so whichever one I get to first depending on the direction I'm coming from.

where I live, the people at the Home Depot are actually all very nice and very knowledgeable whereas Lowes was not at all. I'm sure it all depends on the staff.

I think Lowes is a little cheaper, but in general they're both overpriced on most things. if you can find it elsewhere, there's a good chance it'll be cheaper.

QFT. I could (and have) spent hours wandering around there.

Also, harbor freight FTW.

Lowes is closest.

That said, got some brackets and boards for shelving last night.

Harbor Freight

There is only one question a man is allowed to ask: "Where is the <thing he wants to buy>"

I originally said

Quote :
"I worked at Lowe's, so Lowe's all the way"

but when I had to buy a washer and dryer, Home Depot had the best buy for me (cheapest, worked great). The guy who helped me was very helpful, and all the people in the store were being helpful. The workers at Lowe's didn't give a fuck and had washer/dryers that were around $200 more for their cheapest stuff. Plus they were disorganized as fuck.

I'm still a Lowe's fan overall, but its very close now.

My first pick is usually Lowe's with Home Depot at a close second. Sometimes I end up going to Home Depot first though, because it is right next to the Target at Crossroads.

assuming it's for a product that's carried at both stores, i can't imagine ever caring enough to not just go to which one is closer to where i am at the time i decide i need something

saturday though i did buy something at home depot, then go across the street to lowes to get the second item.

heh

lowes. home depot, at least in rocky mount, doesn't carry as much stuff as lowes & the prices are higher. there's too much orange too.

harbor freight for tools, handyman (walking distance) for quick parts, amazon for bulk or expensive. contractor shops for specialty stuff like fergusons or contractor supply. lowes for shit like... paint

either one is as good as the other. I go to home depot because it's closer, though i would probably go to lowes if the stores were side by side since home depot is like the Walmart of home improvement.
