You underestimate the number of people that are gonna be clamoring to get their 3g iPhone 4 on Verizon.

No, I'm not. Even if they sell 30 million on the first day, this thread still isn't needed. We've discussed 4 different revisions of hardware over in one thread. Slapping a cdma chip in the latest hardware (or hell, even unveiling the new VZW exclusive iPhone5) can easily be discussed over there as well.

we just got 3g here, & right now it's the same speed as verizon. we are interested in switching not because of speeds but bc of coverage out here in BFE. we have several projects in northampton, halifax, and other counties in northeast nc, and there is just NO coverage of any kind whatsoever with at&t. verizon is there.

Yea, up there in eastern NC nobody has an AT&T phone because they have terrible coverage. If you go off I-95, forget it. There coverage around Lake Gaston is also non-existent.

keep in mind this announcement isn't in Cupertino, so don't expect a revolutionary announcement. it will probably just be a CDMA iPhone 4 with 3G.

Verizon's 4G LTE isn't everywhere yet and could cause issues, something I'm sure the iPhone won't switch to until it's availability increases, but who knows.

And no, this doesn't deserve it's own thread, and most certainly not ALL CAPS.

Anyone know if I'll be able to use my AT&T iPhone (3GS) on Verizon's plan? Could I just let my AT&T contract expire, then switch to contract-free service on Verizon?

This is why I am stoked. I currently have the iPhone for AT&T and it's an effing joke. Not because of the phone but b/c AT&T's service is terrible and there customer service is equivalent to the sincerity of Satan.

"Verizon's 4G LTE"

The whole 4G thing is just marketing. No provider actually has "4G" speeds. It's all still 3G. With AT&T 3G I get HSDPA and hit close to 6-7mbit download and 1-1.5mbit upload. Verizon on the other hand has shitty 3G speeds and the LTE isn't available everywhere.

The no data and voice at the same time sucks though. Haha. Take it I have a Verizon Blackberry, an AT&T iPhone, and a Sprint hot spot with me I could care less.

Plus CDMA sucks. Did they actually swap the GSM out for CDMA or add in CDMA? Not being able to unlock the phone and use it in Europe sucks. They should have kept the GSM aspect. My Verizon Blackberry has a GSM radio as well as the CDMA.

Plus free tethering and hotspot on AT&T unlimited plan is nice.

^^AT&T's customer experience IMO is much better than Verizon's. Although maybe that's because I'm dealing with a Blackberry on Verizon and the iPhone on AT&T. The iPhone on Verizon is going to be a joke until they upgrade their 3G speeds to at least match AT&Ts.

^^it's covered in every major city and most urban areas. If there's no 3G coverage AT&T's edge isn't horrible. In fact in my experience it's not THAT much slower than Verizon's slow 3G. I agree there's areas where AT&T coverage sucks but I don't think people should make blanket statements saying all AT&Ts coverage sucks. Where most people are AT&Ts coverage is much faster than Verizons.

as an AT&T iphone owner...I'm pumped. I hope tons of people jump ship. Less traffic on the network and maybe it'll cause AT&T to change pricing/offers in attempts to keep folks.

btw, I've never had a problem with the network. No carrier is available everywhere...now we get to hear verizon folks bitch their shit slows down due to traffic.

^indeed. Although Verizon is already slow. Verizon is going directly from EVDO to LTE and the iPhone only supports EVDO so it will always be slow. I rarely hit the 1.4mbit estimated max on my Blackberry.

Whereas AT&T already rolled out HSDPA and HSDPA+ before rolling out LTE. I'm getting close to 6-7mbit speeds on HSDPA alone while Verizon iPhone users will always be stuck with EVDO.

people seem to be missing the point. there's speed and there's reliability.

if you're complaining about 1075Kbps (with 20% more reliability) being "slow" when compared to 1259Kbps, then you're absolutely retarded. if you think iPhone's leaving AT&T is going to help your reliability, you're retarded. will it increase your speed? maybe.

VZW > AT&T anyday.

i don't care if my video loads 0.7s faster, i just want to "be able" to watch the video first, and secondly, in a reasonable amount of time.

Huh? How is it 20% more reliable? I spend 99% of my time in major cities. I get 6000-7000kbps on AT&T's HSDPA whereas I get 1000Kbps AT BEST on Verizon's EVDO with my Blackberry. I was playing Pandora on my Blackberry on the drive to Atlanta the other day and it kept dropping out because the speed sucks. Switched it over to the iPhone and Pandora ran almost flawlessly even when it switched to edge (happened only a couple times between Charlotte and Atlanta).

Verizon isn't more reliable at all than AT&T in my opinion. AT&T is consistently faster and I still have my unlimited plan. I agree I may be the minority here but I would never switch solely to Verizon.

I'm just saying. Coming from someone who has Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon and uses all three of them consistently AT&T is by far the best experience and the fastest, then Sprint, then Verizon in terms of speed. My iPhone even gets faster speeds than my Sprint 4G hotspot.

1) first error, thinking you are the only person on AT&T and that your experience is the the same for everyone
2) second error, not all phones are Blackberry, and not all Blackberries have the 7Mbit enabled on HSDPA
3) thinking that your opinion is worth more than the countless AT&T customers who've voted AT&T the worst carrier on multiple surveys...

i acknowledge not everyone has a bad experience on AT&T... thanks for posting your opinion, but it is NOT the majority of AT&T users.

^I've streamed NFL Live TV feed on my Droid on VZW from Kansas City to Denver (through some of the most rural areas in Kansas...)

Being able to use pandora isn't exactly something to brag about. I drove from nc to pa a few years back and listened to pandora on my original iPhone (no 3G). It worked the whole way up except for about 5 minutes in one small spot in va.

I get speeds of 4+Mbps on my iPhone all the time. And can talk and surf the web at the same time. If people are happy with 25% of that speed and not being able to do that, more power to them. There's no question for me what the better of the two networks is right now.

^^^lol if he doesn't speak for the majority of AT&T users neither do you. I've been with AT&T since I got my first phone way back as a freshman in high school. I've never had issues with dropped calls. I've had a smart phone with them for about a year now. The only issues I've had with it are completely unrelated to the network. I never have issues with data speeds, as they're consistently 5+ Mbit. Never have issues with coverage since AT&T is everywhere I am.

i said at&t's coverage is crap as in they don't seem to cover as much land as verizon.

idk how the speeds compare elsewhere, just in RM. i'd rather have coverage than speed i think. from MY perspective, out here in the boonies, verizon >>>> at&t. with the at&t 3g coverage we JUST got 2 weeks ago, i'm getting about 2.5mpbs. i was getting that with verizon 2 years ago. idk what they have now.
