I have a 2006 Trailblazer which is pissing me off. I had the throttle body cleaned a week ago (it had been throwing a code and the CEL). Well now the damn CEL is on again. Autozone said "P0171" was the code and suggested running cleaner thru the tank. I did that...light went off...came back on...off...now on again. I am getting sick of messing with this damn car it needs to get inspected and cant w/ the CEL on. Any idea what will fix this code or recommendations on a reasonable mechanic? 1/18/2011 10:22:03 AM |

Check for a vacuum leak and try cleaning the MAF sensor. Running a cleaner in the fuel won't do that. Someone else probably has better suggestions. 1/18/2011 10:27:18 AM |

Could be that the MAF is fouled somewhat. I would also check fuel pressure (under load if possible), see if that's a little low. Have you ever replaced the fuel filter?
And yeah, it could be a vacuum leak too. P0171 is lean A/F on Bank 1 (and if you have the Atlas six, you only have one bank, lol). This is just gonna take some sensible troubleshooting. 1/18/2011 11:10:06 AM |

No I have not replaced the fuel filter. I guess I need to find a mechanic. 1/18/2011 12:29:15 PM |

The proper way to clean that tb would have been to spray tb cleaner on a rag and wipe the unit out. Is it a drive by wire unit? If so, then the unit will need to be replaced. 1/19/2011 6:22:05 PM |
