Ooops.

Quote :
"A car was abandoned at a railroad crossing on Robinson Street in Lowell early Sunday and then hit by an Amtrak train.

No one was reported injured.

Police in Lowell, a small town in Gaston County, believe the car had been repossessed shortly before, and they theorized that a tow-truck driver lost the car at the crossing.

Whoever left the car could face charges because he fled the scene of the crash, according to Lowell officer T.G. Henderson.

The collision happened just after 5 a.m., Henderson said. Police believe the car had been repossessed before dawn on Sunday from apartments near the railroad crossing.

Police don't believe it was stolen because the woman who had owned the car was expecting it to be taken, Henderson said.

Repossessing vehicles can be contentious and, at times, dangerous. Tow-truck drivers often pick up a car and quickly move it to another location, where they attach the vehicle to the truck more securely.

Police said Sunday they believe the repossessed car somehow became disconnected from the tow truck as it crossed the railroad track, Henderson said. Just down the track, the train, carrying 180 passengers, was approaching.

"The driver didn't get it off in time," Henderson said.

Police plan to contact the bank that repossessed the car to locate the truck driver.

Way to go from almost making ~$500 to having an arrest warrant out.

Either that or the person they repossessed it from had the attitude: If I can't have it, no one can!

I would assume the tow driver would be responsible since nobody was "operating" the vehicle. I know that your auto insurance covers damages caused by towed devices such as trailers in NC.

That's what it's like living in charlotte. You always fear some repo man is gonna steal your car and get it smashed.

I like how in the article they have to clarify the danger of repo work, when they also state that the lady knew it was coming.
