I haven't done that since 2001. Both times it was during the flush, so it wasn't fully submersed.
the first time around it was one like this:
and I was able to dry it out and it survived. I hope this one will too:
However, I've already observed, prior to removal of the battery, that the screen was not backlit

If you didn't at least wait a few days before putting the battery back in, you're an idiot 1/19/2011 12:57:25 PM |

i dropped mine in the toilet recently
i'd recommend the rice trick (vs broiling in the oven). the rice trick dried mine out a lot and everything worked except for the speaker. that was kinda sad.
RIP, phone
now i don't keep it in my back pocket anymore. lesson learned. 1/19/2011 1:40:52 PM |

i know. it was dumb looking back on it. and apparently heat is the OPPOSITE of what you are supposed to use on electronics.
anyway, the reason i tried it is because my friend did it to his (well has DONE it to his more than once) and it has ALWAYS worked with water damage. so he was a reliable source with lots of experience!
the rice actually did work though and i wish i had tried that first haha. 1/19/2011 2:12:55 PM |

No, I wasn't calling you out on the heating it part, just that broiling is when you turn the oven on as hot as it goes. While entertaining, pretty sure that would be counterproductive. I have also heard of putting it in the oven on the lowest heat. 1/19/2011 2:15:25 PM |

^^ hahaha yea it was dumb. but i figured it couldn't get worse, lol. but yea then i learned on the good ole wolf web, heat is bad for drying wet electronics. the more you know?
^ i guess. i was in a bar and wasn't going to leave it just sitting on the table! and i don't carry a purse (usually, though i have since invested in one) so it was in my back pocket. whoops. 1/19/2011 2:19:44 PM |

those old Nokias were indestructable. I left one on the hood of the truck one day leaving a job site, and I noticed it as it was sliding off the hood while I was doing about 50mph going down a dirt road. I got out, found the shell and the phone scattered over about 100 feet, put it back together, and continued using it for another year. 1/24/2011 12:27:33 PM |

I dropped my blackberry in a cup of water once. I knocked over the cup in a very dramatic looking motion and pulled the battery out immediately.
Left it in rice for about 4-5 days and it worked.
It's had some glitches since then, occasionally the ball or keyboard stops working for a day or so and the camera makes everything look like those Charles Schwab commercials.
Which is actually pretty awesome but not if you actually want to take a picture. 1/24/2011 12:34:38 PM |

I always turn sideways and never hold my phone over the toilet or sinks. A little bit of effort saves a whole lot of money, time, and bullshit you're going through right now 1/24/2011 1:13:26 PM |

Buying a new phone wouldn't have been much of a problem, getting android 2.1 and more memory and better screen would definitely have been in my interests. However, I REALLY like the hard keyboard and seems like most of the new ones aren't going that way. With the amount of time it takes to get served in the local phone stores, I probably wasted less time saving my old one. I try not to get it near the fixtures in the bathroom as well, but it rang and I butterhanded it into the john. 1/24/2011 1:22:07 PM |
