WTF. This is weird for me, since I grew up in Memphis hearing these guys on the radio before they got huge. This video does not go at all with the North Memphis gangster image they've had for so long.

looks and sounds like a band that has paid their dues over the years, created a reputation and a body of work, made enough money, and decided to try something different and have fun with it.

I kind of like it. It's like chopped and screwed music that you can actually enjoy without being fucked up on weed and syrup.

I too have always been a fan of Project Pat, Crunchy Black, Lord Infamous (The Scarecrow), and DJ Pauly D. I too admire the Oscar, and yes I think they hit the MDMA and the THC if you've ever listened....to anything of theirs?

^^I have DJ Screw's entire discography, but the only time I enjoy listening to it is when I've been drinking. Whenever I listen to his chopped and screwed albums sober, I only get about 2 songs in before I just switch to the original unchopped album.

I always like the screwed portion of his work, but I always felt like he chopped it way too much.

I'm not saying I can't enjoy it, its just not what I expected from DJ Paul and his crew. In fact the song is kind of catchy.

That's a band that was tailor made for a certain demographic. They want rock songs that aren't too fast or crazy and have lyrics that make sense at face value. There can be an occasional ballad, but it should still rock, too. If the band does anything different, they will immediately reject it.

Three Doors Down, Creed, and Nickelback are all examples of this type of band. Beck and David Bowie are two examples of the opposite.

Ok. I also hate Creed and Nickelback. I love Beck and David Bowie. I'm still confused as to how my thinking leads to those horrible bands.

The thinking that you should expect a certain sound from a certain artist and are confused/disappointed if it's something you're not expecting.

I'm not disappointed. Maybe a little confused... I mean its fucking Three 6 Mafia. It's not like I'm heart broken if they change the style they've obviously worked so hard on developing all these years. I'm definitely for experimentation but... well.... ITS FUCKING THREE 6 MAFIA. Do I really need to say anymore than that? No.

Life sucks for a lot of people and they just wanna go out and mindlessly dance, socialize, and have a great time

Nobody wanna hear some new York lyricist botching about the man holding them down

Deal with it

Melodyne is for people who are mediocre singers or who don't want to track something 50 times.
Autotune is for people who can't sing, or for people who can sing but want to sound like people who can't sing (this is my main problem with it)

pfffft

ProTools and Logic are just DAWs
they don't have a specific sound - they are just tools

OMG can you believe those punk bands using electric guitars?!

You really don't think logic has a sound? I only said that because my brother is an audio engineer who has worked on some pretty reputable albums which you have heard and are on the radio right now. Entire time I spent out there he kept speaking about how the newest logic had a couple of innovative sound libraries.

My brother has also worked with apple on the newest garage band guitar simulation software. I don't really know anything about pro tools because I've never used extensively it but logic makes song writing really quick and the learning curve is much quicker. From what he told me, the industry standard is to write in logic, then edit and add layers in protools

remember when tiesto was good? like energy 2000 or when he was rockin cream or amnesia during ibiza's summer jam. the white dudes at the head of these record companies and media companies need to stop syphoning cred/sales from good artists in an effort to get shitty acts in the game.

Melodyne can also do a lot of things Autotune can't. Say if you record a guitar chord being played, you can go in and change each individual note and make a completely different chord.

Also, different DAWs can have different sounds due to their audio engines. Logic and Pro Tools (and in electronic music, Cubase) are the top DAWs because they have the best, or the most accurate, audio engines and mixing algorithms. Even though Ableton Live isn't quite as good in terms of sound, all of the tools, instruments, effects, and just the way the interface is designed makes it badass. Reason definitely doesn't have as much of a professional sound, but its great for people just starting out with producing music on the computer, and all of the instruments and effects/tools are really fun and unique sounding.
Renoise is fun too, if you like the tracker interface. Its for the more mathematically minded. Its what Venetian Snares uses. It doesn't have a bad audio engine either. Fruity Loops is alright, I never messed around with it. Garage Band pisses me off (its not that bad, but I'm spoiled).

I'm not really familiar with Logic's default libraries. My experience with production sound has been more on the film/TV/radio end of things which hasn't involved much music composition. The little that I have been involved with has usually involved proprietary cinematic string libraries like the Big Fish ProSonus stuff.

My brother's response upon seeing said video:

"Yeah they put out mainstream music that is pathetic. But if you listen to mixtapes and stuff they still put out, some of it is still good. They put out one I think last year, just Juicy J and Project Pat, that is good. But this shit...NOW THIS SHIT here nigga? This SHIT HERE NIGGA? This shit is terrible."
