Have legit product key but lost my restore disc. Trying to hunt down some sort of installer

yeah, the digitalriver links are legit. Download the iso you want, grab http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/HashTab-Download-12591.html then google the MD5. You should get a number of results claiming it's the official hash.

It won't auto activate but he can call the phone number and activate over the phone as long as it matches the same edition

This serial is from MSDN, but I deleted the ISO and lost the disc I burned

If you are an NCState student (depending on which college you are in) then you can probably go to MSDNAA and download a free copy of Win7 with a new key and all!

I have the opposite issue, I got W7 while I was taking online courses but I'm no longer a student. I have the iso but I'm guessing its a feature of the system that you still have to be a student to get a new valid license?

when i get the purchase confirmation email i always reply to myself with the key, so i can just serach gmail for it later on.

What about Windows 7 starter ISO? I know some Windows 7 discs have all the versions on it, would it have Windows 7 starter on it?

I'm pretty sure any 32-bit windows 7 disk should be able to install Windows 7 Starter Edition. Home, Professional and Ultimate are all the same disk, as long as you have the right architecture type (32/64-bit) but I'm not 100% sure because Starter Edition is only available from OEM's.

I'm not sure if this thread applies to me but I'm going to post this here and hope one of you awesome tech people can help me.

I inherited a laptop that had vista on it, I upgraded it to windows 7 back in the beginning of March. Tuesday night I saw that it had some Windows updates to install, and service pack 1. It looked important so I installed updates and rebooted. It sat for hours "configuring" I came home Wednesday evening and it was still the same and even though it said do not turn off computer, I did anyways. It was just frozen so I thought it might help. It just went back to the same screen and froze again. Then I tried booting it into safe mode but it froze at the same place and then rebooted itself and now says failure updating reverting changes.... but it just get frozen saying that too and never finishes....

I should have backed up everything

Do you know of what I could do or should I reformat and reinstall windows 7?

just freezes, no error message. It just doesn't continue.

Windows should have created a restore point before attempting to install SP1 (unless you turned them off to save space or something). If you still have your Win7 disk you can boot to that and go to the recovery environment and one of the options should be to restore the computer using the most recent restore point.

If you need more detailed instructions than that let me know.
