"Davidson said it happened under the I-540 overpass on Glenwood Avenue near Brier Creek. He had just left his workplace on T W Alexander Drive a short time earlier and was walking to a friend's house. With no sidewalks on that section of Glenwood, he decided to walk in the median.

That's when he was hit by a Raleigh police car.

"I land and I'm holding my arm, and I notice the car down the road is still in this left lane right here. He throws on lights. And I'm like, whoa, the policeman just hit me," said Davidson.

Davidson said he injured his arm and has bruises and abrasions on his back and shoulder. He was taken to the hospital where he learned he would be cited for impeding the flow of traffic.

"I shouldn't be punished for his mistake that he made. I, they charged me. I'm in the hospital. They charge me for hitting me," said Davidson."

Where is that block tool? I voluntarily clicked on this thread and I'm disappointed at the contents and now I think I'm going to make a thread about it so I can whine.

I left out the best part in my quote:

So either the cop was driving in the median or the guy was walking in the street at the edge of the median?

And yeah, cop done goofed and decided the best defense was a good offense.

Don't walk in the road, kids.

I'd say 70% of cops are highschool bully's that couldnt do anything else.

The last 30 actually wants to make the world a better place. I'll let you decide where this cocksucker belongs.

^ That's what's up for debate. Was he in the road or on the side of the road? Only the dash camera will tell.

^^ Well, I have no sympathy with the guy getting hit given that he was walking on the road. However, do you really need to write the guy a ticker after hitting him with your car? The cop probably had to cite the guy for insurance reasons as opposed to some desire to punish rampant criminality.

The "side of the road" in this case is a 6" wide strip of pavement to the left of the painted line. It's a pretty dumb place to walk.

^ As I understand it police dashboard cams don't record unless the lights are on.

If the guy was really walking in the road then I don't think the cop is an asshole. It's not clear from the article if he personally wrote the ticket/report or if another "impartial" officer did it. IMO he shouldn't have been the one to write the report or ticket to at least go through the motions of impartiality, but I wouldn't call the cop an asshole for writing down what really happened if he did write the report himself.

In the article the guy claims he wasn't in the middle of the road, so if he was on the shoulder, within the white line, then it's possible it really is the cop's fault (the dash camera film wasn't made available to the press). The cop is beyond asshole in this situation.

"Where sidewalks are not provided, any pedestrian walking along and upon a highway shall, when practicable, walk only on the extreme left of the roadway or its shoulder facing traffic which may approach from the opposite direction. Such pedestrian shall yield the right-of-way to approaching traffic."

that area is a terrible area for pedestrians, there have been many hit and at least one fatal accident that i can think of. they really need to figure something out there.

AFAIK, there is no law against walking in the road, if you are walking against traffic.
