Are you saying that you switched from one course to a different course? (like from spanish 1 to french 1) Or to a higher level of a course? (spanish 1 to spanish 2)

I haven't taken many online courses, but I've certainly dropped one course and added another at the start of a semester before, usually not this late into things though.

Can you switch back? Will not having taken the pre-reqs affect your ability to get credit for this course, or is it just a matter of not having the background necessary to perform as well in the course? If that is all it is, can you get tutoring, or buy the book for the pre-req class and try to do a speedy catch up on your own?

Looking at the academic calendar it says the 24th was the last day to add courses. Although it never hurts to try and explain the situation to someone. Sometimes exceptions can be made to the rules if you're willing to jump through enough hoops (at least that is my experience with the NCSU bureaucracy). I'd start calling or e-mailing some of these people to explore your options:

Or you could always tell your professor you're feeling slightly unprepared and ask what he or she would recommend as a way to get you up to speed.

Good luck!
