People think zombie apocalypse planning is dumb, but a lot of the issues actually transfer to the real world in very bad situations

Egypt vigilantes defend homes as police disappear
CAIRO (Reuters) - Egyptians armed with sticks and razors have formed vigilante groups to defend their homes from looters after police disappeared from the streets following days of violent protests.
Banks, junctions and important buildings previously guarded by the police and state security were left abandoned on Saturday and civilians have quickly stepped in to fill the void.
"There is no police to be found anywhere," said Ghadeer, 23, from an upscale neighbourhood. "Doormen and young boys from their neighbourhoods are standing outside holding sticks, razors and other weapons to prevent people from coming in."
She added: "The community is working together to stop this and protect ourselves."
Police withdrew from the streets when the army was sent in to take over security in Cairo. Witnesses have since seen mobs storming supermarkets, commercial centres, banks, private property and government buildings in Cairo and elsewhere.
Egyptians have called for army intervention to bring back law and order. On Saturday, many protesters changed: "No to plundering and no to destruction."
Dozens of shops across Egypt have painted display windows white to hide contents and discourage looting. A cash machine was broken in an upscale neighbourhood, witnesses said.
"They are letting Egypt burn to the ground," said Inas Shafik, 35.
Several government buildings were set ablaze during days of protests against President Hosni Mubarak's 30-year rule. They were often left to burn without the intervention of authorities.
LOOTING SPREADS
State television said army reinforcements were being sent to sites across Egypt to protect public and private property.
Islamic leaders have in the meantime called on people to join vigilante groups to protect their homes themselves. Yet, scenes of looting appeared to spread from upscale parts of Cairo to downtown and poorer areas as well.
"Our jobs are done and over. There are thugs everywhere, ransacking our shops," Saleh Salem, a shop owner in central Cairo. "Since the government is not doing it, we are sending down our boys to create human shields to fight the criminals."
Rumours were rife with reports of escaped convicts running through the streets. State television reported at least 60 rape cases during the unrest. It also reported that the country's cancer hospital for children had been stormed.
"They are torching down the prisons. Our lives and property are at risk. Get out of the way," one shopper shouted, echoing the anxieties of many as they raced to stock up at supermarkets." |
Plus shit that happened in New Orleans during Katrina and the aftermath. Crazy shit.

Let's see.... if it occured outside right now, I would barricade the sliding glass doors downstairs first then the windows, if not having the fiance helping at the same time with that. I would make provisions to quickly block the staircase if things got out of control and we had to retreat to attic and defend upstairs (some firepower is up there).
If stairway got messed, something heavy to quickly throw down to get in the attic and pull the door up and break out onto the roof for a final stand.
If it wasn't too bad, fight the way to the car and head to walmart just down the road and if the parking lot didn't seem too bad work our way inside to the sporting dept and grab all the ammo possible and go from there... 1/30/2011 2:32:19 AM

When we found out at work that they were going to announce the zombie loads I thought it was great...
It's too bad they don't have a .410 load for The Judge....easy to carry and conceal, and good amount of damage for a headshot to the zombie.

I've got about 3,000 rounds of .22, amongst other calibers... That on top of my hidden supply stash of food, "replenishable water", and other resources, I think I'm pretty golden for a while until I can come up with some plan after assessing the situation properly. But I guess with any SNAFU, the best you can do is ride it out and do your best along the way...

Yeah but are your 3000 rounds of .22 ZOMBIE ROUNDS?!?!?!!?
This ammo was made to destroy zombies, especially their heads. You gotta get the headshots to really take out a zombie...and frankly I think a .22 might be just a little weak for a zombie. 10/30/2011 2:23:13 AM

no, they aren't .22 zombie rounds ...
But hey, it'll ricochet around in the skull a bit... doesn't that count for something? Besides, a .22 to the head is still no joke... Sure it isn't a .45, .308, or a 12 gauge, but it'll get the job done all the same... For a zombie infestation, I'll take a .22 over any other caliber just because I can carry a lot more ammo without it being as bulky or heavy as the other options.

Welp I have a few high power accurate rifles as well as some .22lr rifles and handguns for food, a couple big bore revolvers, shotguns, and a good ammount of ammo. I also have a big bulletproof diesel truck with all mechanical fuel delivery and electrical distribution that will run on fuckin' pig fat if I need it to. Mom lives on a small farm on the top of a hill in the middle of nowhere and she's a fuckin' cowboy herself. Between these things and a little bit of bullying the weak for supplies I think I'm set. 10/30/2011 4:33:45 AM

I'll charm my way into a rag tag group of survivors and become their leader. I'll set out to find some nukes and watch the world burn before blowing my brains out instead of giving in to the inevitable radiation sickness. 10/30/2011 4:37:34 AM

So is that ammo designed for blowing someone's head apart? Seems a bit eery to me...but I suppose good for an apocalypse situation like what I posted above 10/30/2011 8:48:49 AM

Well you might want to have me around...I'm just saying...if an apocalypse comes I know where there is a very large warehouse full of a ton of weapons and survival stuff...we could "find" some if we needed to. 10/30/2011 8:52:02 AM
