not intended in a racist way, but the whole "that's my nigga!" kind of way you'd see in entertainment. And almost never around black people. Now we are getting into generalizations, but are black people aware that this usage is somewhat common? And does it bother a significant portion of them?

Is this a sign of the success of hip-hop culture or just another sign of the callousness with which we treat the word?

I use to coach basketball and be the AD of a private high school in the Durham/Ch. hill area, and out of the 11 guys on my varsity basketball team (9 of them were white), ALL of white guys on my team would refer to each other by this way, and would always think, since when did it become a fad for preppy white male suburbanites to refer to each other this way...?

They all 'thought' they were the shit when they said it too.

I don't know when i worked at the golf course the N bomb was regularly used as the next level of swear word.

with Ass being used as a swear word modifier.
